World War Two / Re: help with royal marine ww2
« on: Sunday 24 February 13 11:19 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all; my first post I think!
My father was a Surgeon-Lieutenant RNVR at the Royal Naval Patrol Service in Lowestoft in 1944 and I've just learned that from 14 Nov that year he moved to HMS Dragonfly (Combined Operations base, South Hayling Island) for 'Naval Party 2400' - and this thread has explained what that was! People here have mentioned Singapore but family memory is that Dad was going to be sent to the Andaman Islands. Whether that is true or not I don't know but thought I'd mention it.
Grateful thanks to those posters with details of 'Naval Party 2400'!

Wow, that was quick... I suspect they are related (Stokoe is a rare name + Google doesn't recognise 'West Allen' as a district so it is almost certainly West Allendale) - but as you say finding the link is tricky part...
Happy hunting,
John

I may be a little late to this party but is this page any use/connection?

www.queenslandfamilytrees.com/pedigree.php?personID=I11881&tree=5

Stokoe is my grandmother's family name and they came from Hexham/Allendale. Let me know if there's a connection; I have some photos too.

Cheers,

John

Buckinghamshire Lookup Requests / Re: DORSETT. Thomas c1833, Princes Risborough
« on: Thursday 07 April 11 23:03 BST (UK)  »
Hello all...

I just dropped in because I have an antique clock engraved 'John Dorsett Princes Risborough' and Google brought me here.

Experts have dated the clock to 1730-1740, probably long-case originally although it now has a more modern bracket case. Anyway, if that helps you add to your family tree, or you know any more about the man, my typing has been worth it :-)

Can send photos if you wish. Feel free to mail me media@autograph.uk.com if you have any info.

Many thanks,

John
