Thanks for your help everybody, I did not have the information about the village-i was looking for Greychevron! I don't have John Birch's(Burge) occupation but James is shown as a soldier. There is a rumour the family have Romany connections but there is no proof of this.

Thank you all for your replies. James Birch is a widower and his father is down as John. He was born in Devizes (on his death record) but in two census records is shown as being born in Havan? Berkshire. He joined the Army at 17 in 1854 and completed 20 years service. His sons John James Birch and Charles William Birch both married women with the surname West, hence the difficulty with finding who belongs to who. John James married Ada West in 1911 his second wife.

I am researching the Birch line for a friend. I am trying to find information on  a James Birch otherwise known as Burge born around 1837. I have his military records but no information on his first wife, parents or siblings. He had three sons by a second marriage to Mary Ann Scott. One of them was a John James Birch (1876-1962) who had 20 children. I am also trying to confirm the names of these children. Thank you in advance for any information.

Hello Trevor

Thanks for your time. I'm looking at the line of James Aries (married Sarah Shayler) at the moment who went to Minessota in the United States and had six children. Thanks for your time.

Kind regards Roy

Hello Trevor

I Hope you are well. I have been doing some research into the Airis/Aris/Aries in Parish records in Oxfordshire. You probably already know this, but i found three Edward Aris's all baptised in 1707!! (all in parishes close to Kidlington). Is the Edward (from Bodicote) you have in you line going back to 1590 definitely the correct one? I hope i'm not being too pushy, but i'm just trying to verify the correct line. Thanks for your time.

Kind regards Roy

Hello Trevor

Thanks for the information, it is most interesting and sad. Catherine was witness at her brother James Wedding to Sarah Shayler in Oxford. James moved to Minnesota and had a large family there. The father of the two boys who drowned in the canal died from consumption within a week. Also as you know Elizabeth's husband John Aries died a couple of weeks later. The mother of the drowned boys gave birth to a son called Thomas who later would marry, his wife having twins, its a tragic story all round. iI will be uploading my updated tree onto GenesReunited soon and you can use any information off it you wish. It would be good to listen to your CD, i'm very interested as i'm developing the Aries line in my own tree at the moment.

Kind regards Roy

Hello Trevor

I have been looking at the Parish Records. I see Catherine Aries was born in 1820, but i can't find any record of her marriage. Was she married in Kidlington or a different Parish?

Regards Roy

Hello Trevor

Emma Batts was Amy Aries's youngest daughter, she married an Urban Francis Harriss a Tailor from Kidlington. Thanks for your Information on the Aris Line. I have been looking at Parish records and have had difficulty find the links between the Aries family. There are three People named Edward Aris buried in Kidlington in 1766, 1774 and 1787. Did you trace the line back through Parish Records or was it general family knowledge. Which line is your wife related to? is it the Shaylers' through Emma Aries or Deeleys' through Sophia Aries? I think John Aries (1741-1783) married twice, his first wife Elizabeth Scaresbrook died in March 1773 and he then remarried Sarah Hyatt in November the same year.
Kind regards Roy
