The Common Room / how to follow up a (French) story from 1946 Australian newspaper?
« on: Sunday 17 November 19 06:51 GMT (UK)  »
Today I found a page of The (Melbourne) Sun dated 16th Feb 1946 (just blowing down the street--how odd is that?!) and this story in it has me wondering what happened to Georges and Gilberte. Apart from Googling (which led me only to a similar newspaper article) I have no idea how to investigate further. Thought I'd ask the clever people here.

I have searched Trove and so far found a property sale. But I am still hunting around on there.

We do have info on ancestors and descendants, but I am particularly looking for where I might find any news on what George did in SA.

George is not an ancestor of mine, but of an in-law.

Australia / looking for info on George Hounsom's life in South Australia

George and Mary Ann HOUNSOM arrived in Adelaide on the Buckinghamshire 1839.

George is noted in paper on his death as being an early and respected settler, but despite South Australia’s impressive historical records online we can’t find out anything about him.

Any ideas?

Hi John,

Stephen was also my great great grandfather, so we must be related :)

Thank you so much for posting this information. I haven't dipped into the tree for a while but this is enough to get me hunting again.

You have likely made more progress than I, but please sing out if there's any walls you're stuck at on the off chance I may be able to help.

cheers,
Mandy

Donegal / where was Millbrook, Fahan?

I have an ancestor (William Beatty, abt 1787 - 1850) recorded as a farmer living at Millbrook, Fahan, Donegal.
Does anyone know if Millbrook would be the name of the farm? Or would it be the area? (There are other - and I think related - Beattys listed as residents at Letter and Buncrana.)
Any ideas on how I can find more information on Millbrook?
Thanks in anticipation :)
