Sussex Lookup Requests / Thomas Adams christened in Lancing or Woolbeding?
« on: Monday 10 October 16 22:04 BST (UK)  »
My 2nd Great Grandfather was Thomas Adams and recorded his birth as Worthing 1816 on census returns. I can find his christening on Familysearch.org as 23 June 1816 in Lancing to John and Frances Adams and also in Woolbeding on the same day to the same parents. I can also find his younger brother George Gates Adams christened on 2 April 1818 in both places with the same parents.
Can anyone explain this?
Thanks

A friend of mine, Removedhas important reasons to need to trace her living relatives. She was adopted at birth but has used official channels to identify her biological mother as Margaret Pamela Ann Offord. We know Margaret Offord married Ivan I Beale in 1960 and they had a least 2 children. Margret Offord married a second time to James Smith, which is the surname on her death certificate dated 1989 - The death was reported by  RemovedSmith, her daughter. Calculating her year of birth from this gives me 1936.

The birth of a Margaret Offord (mother's maiden name Isaacson) is registered in the Pancras Registration Area in 1936. This would make her the sister of  Removed Offord and the great aunt of Sarah.

Is anyone able to provide any additional information?

Thanks. This does shed a new light on my research. But even if I have the wrong Elizabeth Roberts it does mean I needn't spend any more time following this line.

Thanks for the reply - I guess I'll just have to be patient and wait until PRONI reopens.

Armagh / Milltown Parish Register - Wright
« on: Thursday 02 September 10 16:39 BST (UK)  »
Can you look up the following marriage: Margaret Hudson (d/o Alexander) to  Thomas Wright (s/o Samuel) 20 Jul 1866 in Milltown. What profession is recorded for Thomas? If he is a soldier then I'm fairly certain this is my great grandparents.

Also is there a record of their children?

The 1901 census places his family in Gillford, Co Down as follows (all born in Co. Armagh):
Thomas b 1836
Margaret (wife) b. 1846
Margaret b. 1886
Martha b. 1882
Thomas b. 1887
John b. 1872

My grandfather was Alexander who was in Belfast in 1901.I've found a christening record (IGI) dated 30 Oct 1865 Tartaraghan for an Alexander Hudson giving a mother's name Margaret Hudson but no father. This could be him.

From the same source I have a John Wright born 11 Aug 1872 Portadown parents Thomas Wright & Margaret Hudson which is a good match to my grandfather's brother.

In the christening records of Tartaraghan there is a Thomas William Wright born 8 Apr 1877 Ballynarry to Thomas & Margaret who is also a good match - however none of the children are on the Tartaraghan records.

My great grandfather Thomas Wright (b. abt 1836 Co. Armagh) was a soldier in the 68th Light Infantry.

If anyone could add an additional information I would be very grateful.

David

Flintshire Lookup Requests / Is there a Bosley in Bangor-Is-Coed Parish?
« on: Thursday 17 June 10 08:36 BST (UK)  »
I am interested in an Elizabeth Roberts who was living in Chester in 1881. Her place of birth has been transcripted as "Rnolton, Flintshire" however it is more likely to be Knolton. In 1829 (her dob) Knolton would have been in the parish of Bangor-Is-Coed (Bangor-on-Dee/Bangor Monachorum). On the Bishop Transcripts (available on www.familysearch.org pilot site) there is a christening record dated 5 Apr 1829 parents John & Mary Roberts. However their residence is given as "Bosley, Ches". The only Bosley I know of is near Macclesfield, about 46 miles away.
Is there another locality called Bosley and is it anywhere near Knolton?

Thanks
David

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: Eliza ROBERTS born abt 1834 Liverpool

The marriage record is on the Cheshire Parish Records Project database
http://www.csc.liv.ac.uk/~cprdb/ here it is
8661101
SAMUEL SHORE bachelor policeman of West Kirby (father George Shore, blacksmith)
married Eliza Roberts spinster of Grange by banns (father's name Edward Roberts, Licensed Victualler)
both signed.  Witnesses were Solomon Hill and Mary Matthews

There are a couple William & Mary Roberts living in Neston (close to West Kirby). In 1881 Mary is a widow & a publican - so was William a publican in an earlier census? If so and I can establish a family link to Edward Roberts we might imagine that Edward of Maria moved to Neston to help in the pub. What do you think?

Best Wishes
David

IGI has a Martha Roberts christened 05 AUG 1827 in Hope, Flintshire. Parents Edward & Maria. Looks like a match to the Edward & Maria who chr Eliza in St Peter's, Liverpool 1830. I also like that they have a Cheshire connection via Maria's birthplace.

Thanks again
David
