Thank you so much DDJJAKE for your diligence and time in making this discovery. My sisters and I were talking about the Geddes family in Baltimore over the weekend but did not know that Alexander Geddes was listed as a "plumber" on the 1850 census and therefore discounted it. That was a wonderful discovery on your part!  I will be very busy today updating the family tree on ancestry.com with all of this information.

Again, wonderful information from my friend across the globe :)

Thank you so much Norrie and John for the research that you have done.  I am happy that I found this venue and your kindly assistance.

Well, that is unfortunate that Alexander died so young.  Now, I will try to focus on another Alexander Geddes born during the same time period.

Thank you again,
Bernadette

Bernadette,
This is why I cannot locate the Geddes family in Cupar in 1841, although thay had another child there in 1844 ! Pity .. especially if they emigrated before the 1851 Census !

Aye
DDJJAKE

I found both Charles age 62 (Shoemaker) and Margaret age 55 listed on the 1861 Scotland Census.  They had a lodger but no children are listed.  So the parents remained in Scotland and I will do more research to find where and when Alexander moved out of Scotland. I did find a John Geddes on the 1871 Scotland census who was born Cupar, Fifeshire. He was married to a Jane Geddes and has a son Charles (age 5) listed on the census. This could be Alexander's twin brother??  With all this research, I am still not certain that this Alexander Geddes is the same Alexander Geddes who lived and died in Philadelphia and was the father of Charles A. Geddes.

Thank you Norrie for your response.

In researching Alexander Geddes on familysearch.org, I found that there is a record of his christening on Scotland Births and Baptisms, 1564-1950.  The information states the following:

Alexander Geddes b28 Aug 1834  bp  21 Sep 1834 Cupar, Fife, Scotland
Parents: Charles Geddes and  Margaret Brown

Thank you for your reply.

I researched this information on familysearch.org and there was a listing for Scotland Births & Baptisms between 1564-1950 on Alexander Geddes born on 28 August 1834 and christened on 21 September 1984 at Cupar, Fife, Scotland with fathers name Charles Geddes and mothers name Margaret Brown. Indexing Project (batch) number C11420-7, System Origin Scotland-VR, Source Film Number 1040101, Reference Number 2:15C12GV

Does the birth date of 28 August 1834 and christening date of 21 September 1984 come up on any other listing?

Thank you,
Bernadette

Fife / Charles Geddes/Margaret Brown 1800's

Hello,

I am researching our Geddes Family Tree and have located my Dad's Great Grandfather, Alexander Geddes born in 1834 in Scotland and his son Charles A. Geddes born US (my Dad's grandfather). Alexander Geddes was married to a Sarah (haven't located her maiden name???) and died in Philadelphia, in 1896.

I believe that Alexander Geddes named his son Charles A. after his father and that Charles Geddes born about 1799 or thereafter and Margaret Brown born 1806 from Fife, Scotland may be Alexander's parents.

Can anyone provide more info on the children of Charles Geddes and Margaret Brown?  If anyone knows of information regarding their son Alexander, it will help me in my family research.  Alexander was a plumber by trade when living in Philadelphia.  I have info that Charles Geddes was born at Collessie, Fife, Scotland and Margaret Brown at Creich, Fife Scotland.

Thank you.
