Hi Ellie!

Then we are distant cousins!  Pleased to meet you :)
I'm a bit busy today but I can supply you with a family tree that goes back to the 1600s.
I'd love to chat more.
Best wishes,
Rachel (nee Haines)

Hi  :)

Peter Haines and Elizabeth Hobbins are showing up as my 4th Great grandparents and their son George Peter Haynes is my 3rd Great grandfather and it looks as if he was possibly a saddle maker. Does anyone know how many siblings George had? and what their names were? or does anyone have more information on Peter and Elizabeth Haines?

Peter Haines parents were John Haines and Mary Cockbill. I've gone back a further two generations. You can find the dates etc on my website www.austinfamilytree.com  If you have any other names and dates, I'd love to have them.

Best Ken

Hi Ken, that's interesting :) How did you manage to find out who Peter's parents were? I don't have any more information than you already have unfortunately.  Kind regards, Rachel

Hi

I am related to Peter Haines from Chipping Camden on my mothers side. Are you still stuck with some dates?

Ken

Hi Ken, I must admit I haven't looked into this for a while, I kinda hit a brick wall (metaphorically speaking), so put it on the back burner.  If you have any information you can give me I would be eternally grateful.  My dad (John Haines) is in his 80's and would be thrilled too.  Kind regards, Rachel (nee Haines).

Good morning All

I have just joined and this is my first posting (if i get it right).

I have just started researching James Haines (born 1861 in Chipping Campden) and wife Elizabeth (Born 1862 in Reading).  They have four children that i know of: Minnie, James, Victor and Florrie.  Minnie we believe is my husband's grandmother.

Any info would be wonderful.
Many thanks

Hi Mrs TW

I don't think it's the same line of Haines' although no doubt I'm sure if you traced further back we'd be related. There are lots of Haines' in Chipping Campden. It's probably worth using a census website to go back further - I personally use www.1901censusonline.com as it's pay as you go.  Good luck and let us know how you get on.

:) :) :)

Hi, Do we know for certain Peter's perants and where they came from? Doug

Good morning :)

It's so difficult to trace back from Peter, but I spent many hours digging around.

This is what I found and it ties in with dates and the family history of Inn keeping/farming & Chipping Campden.

I think Peter's parent were:

Nancy & Samuel Haines

Nancy Haines, Bapt. 30 July 1769 at Aston Subedge. Married Samuel Haines in 1791 at Chipping Campden.
Not sure if Nancy was born a Haines, as no mention of a maiden name.  Perhaps they were cousins? Don't know

Records show they had these children:
- Ann Haines, Born c1792.
- John Haines.
- Sarah Haines, Bapt. 2 Jan. 1795 at Chipping Campden.
- Elizabeth Haines, Bapt. 2 Jan. 1796 at Chipping Campden.
- Dinah Haines, Bapt. 4 Jan. 1799 at Chipping Campden & Died 1823.
- Peter Haines, Born c1799 - Christened 4 Jan 1800 in Chipping Campden
- Mary Haines, Born c1806. M 1831 at Chipping Campden, Lewis Pritchett Barnes. Died 1861.

Samuel Haines (Peter's father) was registered as a Gloucestershire sheep dealer at eleven at the George Inn (now the Noel Arms) Chipping Campden.

The Noel Arms is rich in history!!  In 1651 the future Charles II rested here after his Scottish army was defeated by Cromwell at the battle of Worcester and for centuries the hotel has entertained visitors to the ancient and unspoilt, picturesque Cotswold Village of Chipping Campden.

I've actually gone back a little further and found this entry too:

John Haines of Aston Subedge married Nancy [Bapt. 27 Nov. 1742] at Weston Subedge.
Married on 9 Oct. 1767 at Weston Subedge,.   Could be Nancy's or Peter's parents?

It all gets a bit wishy-washy doesn't it - ancestory.co.uk is probably the best place to go now but funds won't allow at the moment. I have a friend who registered who managed to trace back to the 1600's.

Do you still live in the area?  We live in Redditch.

1762 Samuel Haynes==Nancy Hathorn 13/4/1762 Bitton. (is this Nancy HAINS of Oldland buried 5th January 1831 aged 100 at Bitton?)

I wonder if they were Peter's parents. I'll have to see if I can find something in the parish records, or maybe something is on the gravestone.

See my above post, Familysearch says they were anyway! Peter's parents shown as Samuel and Nancy....

Thank you Mc :)
