I am now convinced that it is Elizabeth M. Johnston, daughter of John Johnston and Margaret Jane Moffat who died Nov 7, 1943.  Her son Thomas Johnston Conner/Connor died Aug 1, 1977 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Her twin infants Clarence Ross Conner and Gladys May Conner were born May 12, 1900 and both died in Aug 1900 in Medford, Massachusetts. If only an obit were found to confirm this information.
Trees that I found for her husband William Raymond Conner say born Ireland but most censuses say that he was born in Concord, Massachusetts. Much like Elizabeth saying she was born in Clinton.
William Raymond Conner/Connor died Mar 1939.
Thanks for any help. Peggy

I never thought of that.
The other obit that would be very helpful would be the one for Elizabeth’s stepmother Jane who started this thread- died Jan 23, 1901. By 1901, Elizabeth was the only stepchild still living but Jane had two biological children, William McClure Johnston and Margaret Jane still living, although William died Mar 7, 1901 in Sterling, Massachusetts, where his great uncle George Johnston died July 27, 1890.

Hello oldohiohome, you have been doing a lot of work regarding Elizabeth’s marriage. At first, I thought it was not her for 3 reasons- wrong age by 2 years, wrong first name for her mother, and wrong place of birth for her- she was born in Ireland, not Clinton. But I am now thinking it is her. Her mother died in 1872 in Clinton when Elizabeth was only 11, so by 1892, perhaps Elizabeth was confused about her mother’s first name.
Elizabeth’s family emigrated about 1868 when Elizabeth was only about 7 so she may have felt she was born in Clinton.
You are correct that an obituary for her death on Nov 7,  1943 would be very helpful.
Thanks for your help. Peggy

Wow, you are fantastic. That is indeed George, also single. The only one who married was Thomas James Johnston who died in 1899.
That leaves Elizabeth age 9 in 1870 who was on the 1880 census, age 18, with John and his second wife Jane McClure whom he married in 1873. Did she marry? Her parents were John Johnston and Margaret Jane Moffat/t.
Thanks for your help.Peggy

On the 1870 census, when John Johnston/Johnson is married to Margaret Jane Moffatt, he has 5 children - Whaley J. age 13, George age 11, Elizabeth age 9, John, and Thomas James.

Of these children, I know that Whaley J., age 13 in 1870, died Jan 20, 1898 in Clinton, still single.
John Johnston died 26 Mar 1887 in Clinton, I believe still single.
Thomas James born 1869 in Clinton died 12 Mar 1899 in Clinton, married to Elizabeth Linton in 1892.
I wonder what happened to George. He is not on the 1880 census with remarried father John to Jane McClure but he would be age 21 by then so could be living separately. But I suspect that he died between 1870 and 1880 in Clinton. Can anyone help with George? Peggy

I think you’re right. Both born Ireland. Too bad her last name is missing.

On John's death certificate, can anyone help with the place of birth of Jane, his mother? Looks like Penneybox?

You have found him, oldohiohome! Funny, I searched for him, with a date of death of 1890, +/- 10 years, and nothing came up. If I am right, he is a brother to the Whaley who died back in Ireland in 1879 with wife Jane, nee Henry, who died in 1930. Thank you very much. Peggy
