Donegal / Quinn in Donegal
« on: Friday 21 March 25 19:50 GMT (UK)  »
Would be grateful to hear of any information with respect to Quinn families in Donegal
What started as an exploration of the Quinn families in the Convoy area  has expanded to research into all the Quinn families in Donegal for a forthcoming publication.
In the early 1900's there were around 800 persons in Donegal bearing the surname Quinn; in addition to Ó Cuinn and Cunnea both of which have been anglicised as Quinn.
The Census and Birth, Marriages; and Death Registration records have been gone through all Quinn's listed and  families to which they belonged have been identified.
Records are incomplete and would like to hear as to Quinn and related families in Donegal as to their grandparents and great-grandparents so as the record may be complete

The records refereed to above are correct.
John and William both single died in Scotland and a most significant aspect was that their brother Dan was the informant on the deaths registration.
This must mean that they remained in contact with each other.
But the story of their deaths did not seem to get passed down the generations.
Yet my granduncle knew something.

I am now writing this up and they will not be forgotten.

There is some importance to be attached to something that you wrote yourself being re-visited and looked at anew.

Thanks to all

Anne Quinn was the daughter of William Quinn and Mary Houston and was born on 20 November 1868 in Gobnascale, Convoy, County Donegal, Ireland.
She probably arrived in New York with her sister Mary in the late 1890’s. Mary was to marry a James Foy and move to New Jersey.
Anne married a Joseph P. Brennan (It was his second marriage) on 26 April 1904 in Manhattan.
Joseph P. Brennan died on 27 April 1907 in Manhattan.
I cannot find Anne after that? Did she re-marry? Did she stay in New York? Did she die as Anne Brennan?

Would be grateful for any information

My granduncle was quite young when he was told things and then he was away 1914-1918.
That story would fit and if the father of a family was killed then any children might not know their paternal heritage.

Thank You

Thank you

Those death dates go towards explaining why nobody knew anything about them.

Scotstoun and Yoker in 1917 might be Hugh?
