If you able to go to the city library they also hold copies of the Gorton Reporter which being a local paper may have reported on the Inquest including details surrounding Sarah's death.

I am attaching the URL of the library as you can see they have an extensive collection http://www.manchester.gov.uk/info/448/archives_and_local_studies/4670/our_collections/22

I have been having a look round and it may be that Laurine and Lorraine are the same person:

Laurine Ada Bryant born 1901 July to Sept Plymouth (Volume 5b Page 244)

Lorraine A Bryant married to Frederick C England 1919

Lorraine A Bryant died 1933, Plymouth (which would tie in with with Laurine's birth)

Laurine may have decided to be known as Lorraine - there are very few of either around that time so it is possible she changed it prior to her marriage. Our ancestors seem to like changing their names or going by their middle names to make research a little more interesting!

Tried finding Frederick on the census and bmds but could find him on the census and the bmds are a bit sketchy.

I would suggest that you go for the marriage certificate as it will show where they were living when they were married, their ages and their father's names.

You could find Laurine's/Lorraine's family and any siblings AND if Frederick was born prior to 1901 to can track him through the census - which is easier when you have a father's name as well to confirm you have the right family and will also help confirm his birth/death.

Good luck

Information found on Joseph's family (John's son born1846)

1891 Census shows him living in South Mims, Barnet
Joseph, 44, Boot Maker, born Shobrooke Devon
Elizabeth, 46, born Butterleigh, Devon
Frank Q Pope, 19, Shoe Maker, born Bloomsbury London (I think this is Frank Quick Pope, 1871, july-sept, registered Holborn, Volume 1b Page 559)
(The 1881 Census shows a Frank Pope Grandson with John and Ann I guess he was visiting!)
Ada Pope, 12, general servant, born Friern, Barnet
Joseph H Pope, 12, errand boy, born South Mims
Gertrude Pope, 8, scholar, born South Mims
Ruth W Pope, 5, scholar, born South Mims
Henry D Elliot, 26, nephew, waiter at restaurant, born Exeter, Devon. When I looked at the original the D looked like the Q in Frank's name - I found a Henry Quick Elliot, born 1864 Oct-Dec, registered at Exeter, (Volume 5b Page 87). Looks like there may also be a Quick in the family!

I have been doing a bit of looking around and have amalgamated the following which may be helpful:

Susan and John had 3 children that we know about from the census:
Joseph Pope born 1812 (can't find his christening) who married Elizabeth. Susan Pope (mother was living with him in 1851.
Hannah Pope 1832 - she is going to be tricky as I can't find the christening and there are various ones around - if you have other information it may help you tie her down.
John Pope born abt 1822 (can't find his christening who married Ann. Susan Pope( mother was living with them in 1861)
John Pope's Children:
Joseph born abt 1846 (probably shown on BMD as 1846, July - Sept, Crediton (Volume 10, Page 67)
Susan  born abt 1849 (there are 2 who could be her - but if I was to go for the likely one I would say 1848, Oct-Dec, Crediton, (Volume 10, page 69)
Anna   born abt 1853 (probably shown on BMD as 1854, July -Sept, St Thomas (Volume 5b Page 63) there was another Anna born in Tiverton but the next 2 children were registered as St Thomas so took a guess)
Georgianna born abt 1860 (1861 shows Georgianna - found a birth for a Georgina in 1859, Jul-Sept, St Thomas, (Volume 5b Page 51)
Sophia born abt 1862 - 1881 census shows her as Sophia S, general servant - found a birth Sophia Shepherd Pope 1861, Apr-Jun, St Thomas (Volume 5b Page 54)
John born abt 1865 - 1881 census shows him as John S, groom - found a birth John Shepherd Pope, 1865, jan-mar, St Thomas (Volume 5b Page 56)

Interesting that Sophia and John have Shepherd in their name this could confirm that John Pope Snr married Susanna SHEPHERD. will do another post with a little information on Joseph's family then leave you to it as I know the joy and excitement can be of finding the relatives yourself.

I have been searching through IGI and there are several John Pope who married Susans/Susannas:

working through them this could be them:

John Pope married Susanna Shepherd on the 28/11/1811 Stoke Damerel, Devon ( I see from a 1851 census which may be totally wrong as I have the same family in Farmington Devon as shown below by isobellruss. this would make Joseph her eldest son born 12 months post marriage which would tie in)

If that is the correct Susanna - there was a Susan Shepherd christened 23/06/1790 at St Saviour, Dartmouth. Father:James Shepherd & Mother: Hannah.

Found Jospeph Pope and family on the 1871 so I have taken it that Susan/Susanna may have died - there is a death for a Susan Pope in 1864 (quarter 1 - jan to march), in Crediton (volume 5b Page 341).

The death certificate would give you details of who registered her death and where they lived to enable you to tie all information together. Bear in mind that I am only guessing and you may want to dig further before paying out for certificates I do not understand how Devon is made up so not sure if Crediton and Farmington are close - would not want you to go down the wrong track.

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Tyer/Tyre/Tire - Dudley St Thomas
« on: Thursday 16 June 11 17:31 BST (UK)  »
Good news and bad news.

Bad news - could not find a marriage for Thomas and Ann and have checked extensively through Dudley St Thomas. Could not see any records at Dudley Archives for other churches in Dudley for marriages around 1811.

Good news - did see a marriage between John Fleet Widower and Ann Tyer Widow on the 15th August 1818 at Dudley St Thomas. Geroge Fleet was a witness which probably does not help but at least it is information.

Sorry I could not be of more help - I know it is frustrating when you hit a brick wall!

William Webb, head, 57, Quarryman, born Cornwood, Devon
Hannah Webb, wife, 57, born Shaugh
James Webb, son, 22, Quarryman, born Shaugh
Josephina Webb (I personally think the name on the census looks like Trephina but can't find any reference to prove that), daur, 18, born Plymouth

Hope this is of help, can't find anything for 1861.

I checked Dudley St Thomas Marriage Records for 1811 but could not find it (then ran out of time) and also could not find reference for the baptism of Mary in 1812.

The records are split between Smethwick and Dudley - I am going to that area again on Wednesday and hoping to book readers for Wednesday and Thursday so I will keep your details and do further searches to see if I can find anything.
