Sussex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Glynde Sussex 1775 - c1851
« on: Wednesday 25 October 23 22:30 BST (UK)  »
I realise it's been a long time between drinks but have just come across your Jesse Turner posts.  I am a descendant of Jesse & Mary's daughter, Eleanor, born 1809 - have just started researching this line through my Burgess line.  Was wondering, on the 1851 Census there is a notation beside Jesse's name "Mrs F Hays Bounty & Parish Relief - formerly a carpenter".  Do you know what "Bounty" refers to, have not come across this linked with Parish Relief before?

Armed Forces / Re: Soldier's "permission to marry"
« on: Saturday 03 September 22 02:58 BST (UK)  »
Have just come across your conversations.  My 4x G.Grandfather, Thos Stephens, a Private in the Sussex Militia, married Mary Parris by Licence, at Beddingham, Lewes 14/9/1799.  It appears Thos was underage and I am told there was a Permission to Marry signed by his father George.  As a private, would he also have needed the permission of his superiors?  Also, is it possible to find a copy of the Permission signed by his father?
Apologies for jumping in but I am hitting a lot of bricks walls in Oz.
Cheers

Sussex Lookup Requests / Permissions to Marry
« on: Friday 02 September 22 23:40 BST (UK)  »
Might someone know where I can find a copy of a Permission to Marry?
My 4x G.Grandfather, Thomas Stephens, was underage when he married Mary Parris in Lewes, Sussex 14/9/1799.  I understand his father, George signed the Permission but I cannot seem to find a copy in Ancestry/Family Tree.
Thank you.

My rellie, Elizabeth Whilles/Douglas/Boyd died at Greenend in February 1855 aged 61.  The death register shows her as Elizabeth Whilles (her maiden surname) so I am not sure what name she would have been buried under, even though both her husbands are shown on the register.  I understand bodies from East Chapel Graveyard were moved and was wondering if there is any mention of Elizabeth in any records.
Thanks.

I do have a photocopy of the book, not an electronic copy, which I would be happy to forward by post.  If you are agreeable could you give me your email address so we can correspond?

Just to add to the mix, my husband is the GGG.Grandson of Arthur Gerrard and Isobel Howie through their son Alexander who, with his wife, Mary Philip, emigrated to NZ in 1858 aboard the Strathfieldsaye.  Alexander's brother, Arthur, and his wife, Jane Philip (sister of Mary above) also emigrated to NZ in 1857.  Since then there has been a long line of Gerrards, especially around the Winton area at the bottom of the south island of NZ.

Hello again Lodger : Just wondering in one of your posts you listed 4 stillborn babies of James & Isabella Robertson, where did you get copies of these?  I cannot find anything on Ancestry or Scotlands People.  Would like copies for my file if I can get them.
Cheers, Barbara

Morning Lodger.
Yes, I knew about James and Margaret thankyou.
The only one I can't find is Margaret Robertson (nee Dunn).  I know Robert died 18/5/1880 at Cambusnethan but have not been able to find anything on Margaret's death.  Know they went to the USA and lived/worked at Lonaconing, Maryland and where their son, Robert Gray Robertson, married and had children leaving several descendants there.
Cheers, Barbara
