Well you have been busy Ann. I am new at this and have trouble getting my head around the facts. Thanks for your information on Augusta. I've the census for 1871 showing that Archibald and her are living together.
That shows that she is 40 years old which means she would have been born in 1831, but now your information says she was born in 1820. So shes saying shes 11years younger than she truly is.  ??? She must have looked young and married two years after having a baby (Archibald 1865), or maybe the baby was from Archibalds first wife. She was ahead of her time like younger men. 15 years younger.
 Any ideas??

Many thanks and look forward to your reply.

Kym, do you mean the grandmother registered the birth?

Her husband may have died and she remarried a man called Bannatyne

Also, Archibalds 1st wife may have died and he remarried Augusta McLean

His death certificate may confirm this

No, sorry I got it wrong. It on the marriage cert from Archibald Glen to Janet Smith. It states the mothers maiden name a Bannatyne and show her present name a Glen. The husband is deceased. I've looked for the death cert. but without luck. I was thinking maybe he was lost at sea. I'll have to try again as I was thinking he was born 1799, as theres another Glen family with the children with the same names and a Archibald 1835.  It get hard when everyone has the same names more or less.

Thanks Kym

Hi,

SP has the following children with parents James Glen & Elizabeth Williamson. All born Largs, Ayr.

1826 Elizabeth
1829 Joahann
1831 William
1833 James
1835 Archibald

Sharon

Many thanks Sharon, as I had not found the two older sisters.

But my problem is on the birth cert. from Archibald Glens daughter (Margaret Bruce Glen1858) it shows the grandmothers maiden name as Bannatyne (also born Millport). But earlier the family at St Nimans Point, she has Williams or Williamson on the birth cert. from the kids. Now I'm unsure if this is the correct family? I also have Elizabeth aged 70 in the 1871 census living with the son Archibald Glen, but he has a new wife it seems and is now living in Ayrshire and not Rothesay any more.

Why would this have been written as Bannatyne if her maiden name was Williamson as this is what the fact point to. Its great that people are so willing to help as I thought it would take weeks to get a answer if at all.

Thanks heaps Sharon
Best wishes
Kym
Where have you looked?
I see your first family at St Nimans Point in North Bute on Ancestry in 1851.

James sr was a fisherman born in Largs. His wife Elizabeth was born in Millport.

Archibald was born in Largs also and is also listed as a fisherman.

There's a tree on Ancestry with this family in too belonging to an Isobel Gilmour - any relation? If not, it might be worthwhile taking out a 14 day trial.

There were many other Glen families on Bute at the time too, undoubtedly some are related.

Ann

Good morning Anna

Thanks for taking the time to look for me and replying. I was interested in Ancestry.com and have started a tree until Kym Glen. I was due to use the trial until I saw on the internet that they billed people after they cancelled the trial. I have been using Scotlands People and have downloaded the Censors along with other documents.

But my problem is on the birth cert. from Archibald Glens daughter (Margaret Bruce Glen1858) it shows the grandmothers maiden name as Bannatyne (also born Millport). I also have Elizabeth aged 70 in the 1871 census living with the son Archibald Glen, but he has a new wife it seems and is now living in Ayrshire and not Rothesay any more.

I have Archibald Glen born 1835 having three children, Elizabeth Williamson Glen 1860, James Glen 1861 Shown as Illegitimate and Archibald Glen 1864. I found Archibald in Familysearch.org with Janet Glen as the mother, but no records in Scotlands people. But there I found an Archibald Glen 1865 with Archibald Glen 1835 and Agusta/Augusta Glen as the birth mother. I don't know if this is the same Archibald Glen 1835 from Rothesay and if he remarried and moved to Ayrshire. I didn't think was the done thing at this time.

Elizabeth carries the Grandmother maiden name Williamson which make sense, but why has Elizabeth Williamson written Bannatyne on the granddaughter's born cert?

I would be gratefully with any help Anna or input, as I've spend hours on end looking and found no clear answer. We're going to Scotland in a few months for the first time and I was hoping to have it sorted a bit more by then.

Thanks and best regards

Kym Glen
