Monmouthshire / Re: Pictures of Pontypool
« on: Monday 21 March 11 22:00 GMT (UK)  »
Torfaen Museuem Trust have embarked on a two year project to catalogue and digitalise old photographs of Pontypool.  The idea is to gather as much history of the town whether it be photos, or old documents and and produce an exhibition and the end of the project.

And if anyone wants to get involved in some research you're more than welcome!!

Waterford / Marriage lookup in Dungarvan please
« on: Monday 21 March 11 21:17 GMT (UK)  »
I'm hoping someone could help me with a marriage lookup or even Birth  ;D  I've checked many Irish resources but my Irish roots are a fairly new discovery so i'm not sure i'm researching where i should be. I've tried the Griffiths Valuation, familysearch and a couple of others i cant recall but my main problem is the different spellings of the name....

Well here is what i have and known to be accurate (ish)!!

Michael LINAHAN (I've lost count how many variations of the name i've discovered)  married Mary Both of Dungarvan, Co Waterford
Michael b. abt 1841 Mary b. abt 1844

They had atleast 4 children who were born in Dungarvan
David b.1865
Statia (i assume this is short for Annastatia) b.1867
Kate b. 1870
Minnie b. 1872

They had three more children but they were born in Wales. But this is where it gets interesting...Sometime during the 1880's they ALL changed their name to LEONARD??
It has been Leonard ever since, so now i'm not entirely convinced their name was Linahan (sp) to begin with.  However they are on the Wales 1881 census as Linahan. Why would they change their name? And how am i suposed to find them.

Please, plaese, please any help or tips greatly appreciated as i'm at a loss.

PS..apologies if i'm not making any sense, its been a long day infront of the pc

« on: Sunday 20 March 11 23:40 GMT (UK)  »
Jon, you've made my week!! EVERYTHING tallies with what i have.  I recently checked the 1911 census and knew of the other two children Lily and William and in an earlier post i asked if someone could lookup Thomas James baptism, but in Glamorgan!

I was going to order a marriage cert after CaroleW post, and still will but i'd never have known about the baptisms in St Issells Church.

What a wealth of information, many many thanks

I've found the marriage of one of my ancestors on free reg but there's no name of the father, how can i find out who his father was?  What other resources can i try? He married in 1802.

Many regards

Pembrokeshire Lookup Requests / Marriage lookup in Narberth - LEWIS completed
« on: Saturday 19 March 11 21:44 GMT (UK)  »
I was wondering if anyone would be so kind to help me locate a marriage of a James LEWIS to Elizabeth (Lizzy) possibe surname LLOYD?  The marriage would have took place around 1897/8, in Narberth area. They would have been in their 20's.  I believe they were both of the same county and i dont know the names of their parents. There's a 'rumour' in the family that James' name was actually 'Thomas James LEWIS' but instinct and other evidence tells me otherwise!
Not a lot to go on i know and i realise the names are very common but any info, however small would be grately appreciated.
Regards
Louise
