Hi,

I have a Mary Marley b.1789 Porlock who wed Thomas Huish at Porlock in 1809. Thomas, bc.1781, d.1870, buried Porlock 20 Mar 1870. However, I also have that Mary died *before* Thomas, and was buried, at Porlock, 16 Jun 1861!

Their 10 children were all born Porlock between 1809 & 1834. Thomas was s/o Thomas 1745-1829 and Jane (nee Perkin) b.1744, who wed 16 May 1774 at Porlock.

HTH,
Jenny

Hi Sylyal,

I have some STREETs of Combe St Nicholas: for example, Abraham (1758-1837) married Edith KITCH at Combe on 19 May 1788.

Also WIMBRIDGE (Wembridge) of Ashill (and Combe St Nicholas): for example, Francis married Martha GODWIN in 1749 and had son William bc.1755.

We may have some common ground to discuss.

Kaz,

I failed to access your Wembridge tree on Ancestry.com.au
Perhaps you could contact me with help, perhaps directly (see my 2008 message, above). Looking in my Combe cousins-of-cousins file, I see I have Mark Thomas Wembridge bc.1866 (date based on '71 census return); but nothing further - no surprise if as a young man he chose the life down-under!

My interest is fairly indirect, but I may have some early data to interest you.

Cheers,
Jenny

Mary, I must apologise about the name of Isaac's father. I have a spreadsheet of Whitestaunton marriage transcriptions, and in reading across I 'jumped' a row, and quoted "George" in error. As you have, so do I: father was John (deceased).

Hi Toby,

I'm unsure if I can be of any further help! Like Dee-jay I strive to be an expert on the folks of Combe St Nicholas and I see that William Long 1782-1870 appears in my "Combe cousins-of-cousins" file. I have no blood connection, but if you were to contact me on jennydotdavis at zendotco dotuk I could put you in touch with at least one correspondant who is a direct descendant of William.

I believe William 1782 was s/o John & Susan nee Hockey.

In my studies of Combe folks and their descendants I have almost nothing on your John Long bc.1803. Nothing more than his baptism date, for which I have 12 Jun 1803, the same as given by Dee-jay. Perhaps you could fill-in some details of his family for me?

Cheers,
Jenny

On 24 Dec 1851 at Whitstaunton there was a marriage between Isaac Hawkins, x, 20, bachelor, labourer, resident of Whitestaunton, father George a labourer; and Ann French, x, 19, spinster, resident of Whitestaunton, father James a labourer. Witnesses were George Tutcher & Grace Samson.

Isaac & Ann had a daughter Sarah Ann who was baptised at Whitestaunton on 21 Mar 1852:  abode was recorded as Holey ( a part of the parish of Whitestaunton, Isaac's occupation a labourer. Then on 29 Sep 1856 son George was baptised.

A further possible child of Ann's is Tom Hawkins baptised on 25 Mar 1866: Tom described as baseborn; mother Ann described as widow, living at Holey.

Ann French appears as an 8-year old in the 1841 census returns for Whitestaunton, at Holey, with parents James & Mary (both recorded aged 35 but subsequent censuses suggest they were 37 and 38)) and 4 siblings.

Hope this helps a little,
Jenny

Copied from your message:

1901 Combe St Nicholas Somerset RG13/2292 folio 33 page 1

Lwr ?     ?adeford

Samuel Fowler age  44 Builder born Combe St Nicholas Somerset
Mary Fowler age 39  born North Curry

This looks like Samuel Fowler 1856-1912, s/o William & Honor (nee Pearcy). These are in my 'Combe cousins-of-cousins' file, which includes the tragic tale of William's death on 23 Jul 1871 following a carting accident.

Would love to exchange further details with you.

I'm studying all Combe St Nicholas folks and would love to learn more of John & Sarah, who I see married at St Andrews on 24 Apr 1860.

Cheers,
Jenny
