Ireland / Re: Looking for origin of O'LEARY family
« on: Friday 28 April 17 13:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi Allen

We have the same Mary Ann O'Leary married to Edward Clark on the 3 Dec 1956 at Holy Trinity Church, Adelaide and lived in the Tatiara District, Bordertown, SA.

I'm not sure if I can give you much more information regarding Mary Ann. I have been searching Mary Ann O'Leary's history for some time and despite the hours spent in the reading room nothing for her arrival in South Australia comes up in the search. I suspect she may have arrived in Australia either through Vic or NSW and then moved to SA overland as so many did during this time. Arthur O'Leary also doesn't show himself in any of the searches.

I know she came from County Cork, Ireland and was born in 1836. She died on the 16 Jan 1918 and is buried at the Bordertown cemetery on the 18th Jan. They had 10 children - Stephen, Edward, Mary Ann, Elizabeth, Charlotte, Harriet, William Jas, Margaret and Arther. I am descended from Stephen Clark who married Charlotte Henrietta Smith. If you are from the same line let me know, I have a lot on info on the Smith family.

Drop me a line if you like - (*)

Cheers
Bec

Dear BeccW
I am descendent of Mary Ann O’Leary and Edward Clark from Tatiara/Bordertown.
I'm trying to get information on Mary Ann O'Leary's origins in Ireland.
I have very little to go on based on my Aunty Jill Harvey's notes.

Marriage date: 3 Dec 1856.
Mary Ann O’Leary aged 19 of Currie Street, Adelaide; Father: Arthur O’Leary.
To Edward Clark. His father’s name Stephen Clark

Mary Ann Died: 06/Jan/1918 (age: ~73-85, Bordertown, SA) Alternate date: 16/Jan/1918

Very interested if you have further information.
Yours sincerely
Allen

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Re: Kate/Kathleen McCarthy born 1833
« on: Monday 09 May 11 11:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi again
After having alook at the entries that I could see I realised that there probably isn't going to be too much else to be gained from the entries. I wanted to check though whether there were any other McCarthy's listed and if it gave any info on the parents (but I think this is unlikely). Also to check the birth place of Thomas McCarthy too.
Thanks for your help
Rebecca

Hi Keyboards
Wondering if you could help me. I have access to ancestry and am trying to locate the 1891 census you gave references for Kate/kathleen and Thomas McCarthy - I can't find it anywhere???? Am completely at a loss, can you please help. Are you able to provide search terms or advice on how to find this - have used census docs for many years so am surprised I can't find it. I have also entered in all the reference details you attached with no luck. I just want to view the record to see if there is anything else that might help us in our search forKate McCarthy.
Many thanks
Rebecca

Hi there
I have O'Leary's in my family but possibly not your line. My GGG Grandmother was Mary Ann O'Leary (father Arthur) who came from Ireland and married Edward Clark in Adelaide, South Australia in 1856. Mary Ann O'Leary was born c.1835 in Cork, Ireland (it seems to be where a lot of the O'Learys stemmed from). Have you checked the Biographical Index to South Australians yet????? There are O'Leary's in there but none of mine. If you don't have access to it, let me know and I can have a squizz for you next time I hit the research centre. Let me know

Ireland / Re: Reilly vs O'Reilly
« on: Friday 06 May 11 13:37 BST (UK)  »
Yes, have to agree is was O'Reilly to begin with. I also suffer the same problem going from O'Rielly, to Riley (Rielly) when the family moved from Ireland to Middlesborough, UK in 1871 and then changed again when their eldest son moved to Australia in 1860 to O'Rielly. I suspect the first change was perhaps to blend in a little easier as I know in Middlesborough there was a fair bit of complict amongst the English and the large numbers of "alien" Irish flooding in to work the Iron Works there. Think they were very interchangable...

Hi Heddwch
I have been trying to track you down - sorry jumping in on another post was the only way I knew how. I have responded to a post you placed a few years ago re: Hannah Barrett (Re: Irish family tree) if you are keen to discuss...
Thanks

Ireland / Re: Irish family tree
« on: Thursday 17 March 11 11:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there. Just wanted to touch base regarding your query. I am also a descendant a Thomas McCarthy and Hannah Barrett through their youngest daughter Kathleen born in May 1883 in Cardiff. I was told by other members of the family that Kathleens parents came out to Cardiff from Cork, Ireland but have yet to find anything to prove this. Just wondering how your search is going or if we could perhaps exchange some information. I am particularly keen to learn what happened to Thomas and Hannahs children. I was told that Hannah died young and with Thomas working away from home the children were put into a catholic orphanage. I have tracked the family down on the 1881 census but can't find a trace of any of them following this period. Can you help?
Many thanks
