Armed Forces Resources / Soldier magazine
« on: Wednesday 12 March 25 10:12 GMT (UK)  »
I understand that The Soldier Magazine [all editions] from 1945 to present date are available to look at online https://soldier.army.mod.uk/archive
This might be interesting for anyone who had ancestors serving in the army after 1945. It looks as though they are free to view, though I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Thank very much for all you replies, it looks as though I can get the information I need from the library copy, which will save me subscribing. I’ve just got to make a list of exactly what I need.
Thanks again for everyone's help

The Lighter Side / Senior moment
« on: Friday 15 November 24 08:27 GMT (UK)  »
In my excitement at being able to download several 1921 censuses last weekend from FindMyPast I forgot that the addresses weren’t on the same sheet! Does anyone know if I would be able to get these from FindMyPast when accessing via the library.
Thanks
Jo

Technical Help / Re: Mcafee anti virus

I don’t know if this is relevant but we have had several emails in the past month from McAfee saying our subscription is due, closer inspection of the sent email address shows that these are from anywhere but McAfee, also we haven’t used McAfee since we changed from a PC to a mac in 2015!
Just be a bit careful about clicking on any of the links

Technical Help / Re: Help! Very technical question – for me anyway!

if you go into settings and it automatically connects to your wifi, you can click on the blue i button next to you wifi details, there is an option to “forget this network” click on it and it won’t automatically connect.

The Common Room / Re: Surname used as a middle name

Also, before middle names were fashionable, a surname as a middle name in a baptism of a base child might indicate who the father was.

This happened with one of my ancestors,I found it was the neighbours surname from one of the censuses but they had three sons all living at home
