Wicklow / Re: Nicholas Wilson, Baltinglass
« on: Wednesday 20 July 11 02:51 BST (UK)  »
I have noticed there are a number of Nicholas Wilsons in Wicklow listed in Griffiths Valuation as tenants and having Trinity College Dublin and the landlord.   A number of these are in areas I believe my Nicholas (various generations) would be from.  Would anybody know if there is any significance to Trinity College being the landlord?  I understand it owned quite a bit of property and used the revenue to finance its operations but that is all I have found out thus far.   Is it a source of any potential information?

Thank you vronlady and others for this.  I am sure I have come across this Anthony Wilson at some point (probably through Slaters 1846).  It is quite possible he is related to the Nicholas Wilson line. One Nicholas (I believe my gggrandfather) married a Louisa Hendy in Baltinglass in 1862, so they were in the same area around the same time.

Unfortunately I am away from most of my records for the next few weeks, but from what I have learned the Nicholas Wilsons seem to have been farmers in the area from Baltinglass to Hacketstown, although one record from Griffiths shows a Nicholas Wilson as a landlord.  Some records can also be found in Carlow.

Hi Kagsy.   The Perrys I am interested in would be Church of Ireland.

My great grandfather, Nicholas Wilson, married an Elizabeth Perry in Dublin in 1893.   The most likely Elizabeth Perry I have been able to find was born in Kiltegan in 1865.   This makes sense to me as the Wilsons were located in Baltinglass.

Her father was a Thomas Perry, occupation Farmer.   Griffiths Valuation shows a Thomas Perry in Ballinasilloge, Parish of Hacketstown.   I notice there is also a John and a William Perry in Ballymaghroe, Hacketstown.  I guess that is your William.

There are also wills and probate records for two Thomas Perrys in Kiltegan, dated 1821 and and 1824.   The Church of Ireland Cemetary in Hacketstown has a gravestone erected by Thomas Perry of Buile in memory of his son John who departed this life on the 24th of September 1805 aged 19.

I am not sure if there is any link but I believe I am descended from various Thomas Perrys from Kiltegan, just a short distance from your Perrys.

Please let me know if you can add anything.

Thank you Lazarus.  I see Thomas Hendy's father is William.    Louisa Anne's father was John, so it is most likely she is Thomas' cousin.  Unless there were more Hendys in Baltinglass than I suspect.

Wicklow / Nicholas Wilson, Baltinglass

I am descended from probably at least three Nicholas Wilsons from Baltinglass.  The last Nicholas Wilson, my great grandfather, was born August 8, 1867 in Baltinglass and married Elizabeth Perry in Dublin in 1893.

His father was a Dairyman in Baltinglass, born 1818 and died 1881.  His father, also Nicholas, was likely born in 1787 and died 1873.

Any connection with anybody?

My GGGrandfather, Nicholas Wilson, married Louisa Anne Hendy in Baltinglass, County Wicklow in 1862.   The most I can add to that is she was born in 1844 and her father John probably born in 1812 and died 1878.
