Dear Irishseeker, There is a record in the Pathead Feuars Lair Register for the burial of Alexander Williamson, merchant, on 21 April 1797. His daughter Agnes was buried 7 May 1824. The Fife Family History Society has many of these old records. I can email you a list of all Morrison marriage and birth records for Dysart and Kirkcaldy from 1590 - 1851 if it is of any help. I think Norrie would agree that finding headstones in these old cemeteries that are legible is almost impossible. Some, like the St Denis cemetery in Dysart was paved over. Alex Morrison.

Duncan's brother was Alexander Edward Forbes Morrison. He had no children. Duncan had children and it was his son who was Alexander Gordon Morrison who was living in Canada when he was contacted.
Cheers,
Alex Morrison.

You might find this useful: The Morrisons of Bognie
The Morrisons from Bognie in Aberdeenshire have an impressive continuous lineage after they acquired the lands of Bognie in 1635:
1st Alexander Morrison of Bognie (Abt 1570) married 1.Elizabeth Garden, then 2. Katharine Gordon.
Children of Alexander and Elizabeth:
Barbara Morrison
Mary Morrison
George became the 2nd of Bognie
2nd George Morrison (Abt 1620-1699) married Christian Urquhart, Viscountess Frendnaught (second daughter of Alexander Urquhart of Dunlugat, afterwards of Cromarty, widow of Lord Rutherford, who, after the Viscount's death, married George Morison of Bognie)
Susana Morrison
Theodore Morrison became the 3rd of Bognie
3rd Theodore Morrison (1685-1766) married Katharine Maitland.
Christian Morrison
Alexander Morrison became the 4th of Bognie
Philip Morrison
James Morrison
Susana Morrison
4th Alexander Morison (1724-1801) married Katharine Duff.
Theodore became the 5th of Bognie
John Morrison became the 6th of Bognie
George Morrison
James Morrison married Anne Victorie de la Marrre
      Anna Jaquette Morrison
Alexander Morrison became 8th of Bognie
John Morrison became 9th of Bognie
Katherine Morrison
5th Theodore (1754-1834) didn't marry and passed on the Bognie title to his brother, John. He acquired the lands of Mountblairy in 1812.
6th John Morrison (1757-1835) (of Auchintoul and Bognie, younger brother of Theodore) married Jane Fraser.
Alexander Morrison became 7th of Bognie, died without issue
7th Alexander Morrison (1802-1874) of Bognie and Mountblairy married Jessie Eliza Duff.
8th  Alexander Morrison (1810-1879) married Mary Catherine Young. Known as Alexander Morrison of Bognie and Mountblairy.
9th John Morrison (1812-1886) married Mary Jane Wetherall. He was the second son of James Morrison.
Frederick de la Marre Morrison became 10th of Bognie
10th Frederick de la Marre Morrison (1842-1911) married Janet Forbes Gordon.
Isabel Gordon Morrison
Alexander Edward Forbes Morrison became 11th of Bognie, died without issue
Duncan Maitland Morrison married Sara Margaret Copeland
   Donald Fraser Morrison
Alexander Gordon Morrison became 12th of Bognie
11th Alexander Edward Forbes Morrison (1874-1932) married Clementina Graham Stuart.
There was a gap in the father-son line at this point whereby a search of ancestors then uncovered the brother of Alexander, Duncan, who had two sons, Alexander Gordon Morrison who was living in Canada, and Donald Fraser Morrison.
12th Alexander Gordon Morrison (1920-2013) and 12th Laird of Frendraught and Mountblairy, son of Duncan Maitland Morrison and Sarah Margaret Copeland, married Yvonne Isabelle Angus.
Diane Yvonne Morrison
Cheryle Jeanne Morrison
Alexander Morrison became 13th of Bognie
13th Alexander Morrison (1952- ) married Bona McKenzie Murray.

Dear Norrie,
I shall be in Kirkcaldy in August and wanted to visit my grandfather's grave. From memory he was buried in Abbotshall Cemetery (Alexander Weir Morrison: 31/101886-20/8/1947). I had a photo of his headstone many years back which I have since lost. By chance would you happen to have a photo of his headstone? Secondly, is my memory correct about Abbotshall or do you know where he is buried in Kirkcaldy and how I can find his grave,
Best Wishes, Alex.

Dear Norrie,
Just a few things:
1. what is an Igi?
2. what is a "sumitted entry"?, and
3. I will be back in Fife some time in September next year, where do I find you to buy you a pint or two?
The entry for John Stein Dryden (the son of George Stein Dryden who I believe is burried at Bowhill) and Frances are my maternal grandparents.
Best Wishes,
Alex.

Just goes to show a picture never lies! There was a John Morrison who died in Kirkcaldy in 1966 and I assumed that would be the John married to Agnes as she died in Kirkcaldy. However, there was also a John Morrison who died in Glenrothes not far away in 1982, and this is obviously the correct John Morrison. Both fitted the age bracket of John who was born in 1903. Unless I went to the expense of ordering hard copies of their death certificates (as on line records are not available after 1910) I chose what I considered the more likely option. A good lesson for genealogists.

As for a number of Morrisons who I have been unable to finalise, the following are their details:
Early family from Dysart David Morrison  (Abt 1740) married to Elizabeth Elder no death date.
Some of their children:
John Morrison (Abt) 1765) no death date,
David Morrison (Abt 1767) no death date, and
Michael Morrison (Abt 1769) no death date.

A few children of James Morrison (Abt 1767, no accurate record of his death but could be 13/10/1839 in Dysart) married to Margaret Ritchie and all born in Dysart:
Robert Morrison (Abt 1799) married to Katherine Wilson 27/5/1816 in Dysart. No record of death.
James Morrison (Abt 1801) could be James Moresson who died in Dysart on 13/10/1839, ie same date as for his father, or both records could be wrong for these "James Morrison/Moresson" (OPR 426/00 0100).
Michael Morrison (Abt 1804) married to Agnes McNeish 5/3/1827, a seaman, died some time between 1841-51?
John Morrison (Abt 1806) married to Jean Kerr 26/1/1825, no further records
Margaret Morrison (Abt 1807), no further records.

On my mother's side, my great great grandfather George Stein Dryden died on 25 May 1902 in Lochgelly. I visited the crematorium in Dunfermline to find his record of burial, but the only entry that could be found was a reference number "297 Bowhill". I would think he would have a paupers grave, but I would like to know where it is.

I look forward to see if you can throw any light on these,

Cheers,

Alex Morrison.

Thanks NorrieG,

I'll give you a full list tomorrow.

In the mean time I was interested in the Cuthill/Morrison inscription. According to the SRO Agnes was born Agnes More Cuthill in Dysart 1901 (426/00 0107). John Morrison was born 26 Oct 1903 in Dysart (426/00 0411).

Agnes More Cuthill died in 1961 (442/00 0031) in Kirkcaldy not 1952 aged 59. John Morrison died in 1966 in Kirkcaldy (442/00 0707).

Whilst I have a relatively comprehensive tree of Morrisons form Dysart and Kirkcaldy, there a a number who simply disappear from the records (ie no marriage or death records). I suspect they have migrated, but to where I have no idea. If you have Morrison relatives from Dysart/Kirkcaldy please get in touch. Alex Morrison
