« on: Sunday 20 March 11 14:45 GMT (UK) »You have the birth name of his first wife Mary, down as Crookham. I thought her birth name was Bew. Could you confirm it for me. All the dates are correct, so I just wonder if, perhaps, she was born by one name and took another later (perhaps a stepfather?).
No, Crookham wasn't shown as Mary's name, but her place of birth as given in the 1851 census. Crookham Common is adjacent to Thatcham.
The additional notes were compiled from parish registers and census returns, where available, so are subject to the usual errors, misunderstandings and lies! You should enjoy the little book with its scurrilous remarks, and you'll find some more Rumbles in there too, as well as the Deacons.
I would be looking in the Thatcham PR for the missing son, probably the eldest. It was common for a woman to go home to her mother to have her first child, so he may have been baptised there too.
Thanks for clearing that up.
