Hi Meg

Your photo is Pre 1871, after approximately that date James Hertz put the property number on his photos. The square corners also indicate it is early. He operated from Lumb Lane from 1865 possibly a bit earlier until his death in Jan 1873. His wife then took over and continued the business but from 5/7 Lumb Lane.

James had opened a new studio at no 5  in about May 1871 and was advertising this address on the photos.

Hope this helps

If the address on the back of the photo is 151e Westgate then the photo dates between 1873-1877. If its 20 Manningham Lane then the date is between 1877-1881. I dont think it will be later than this.

See https://sites.google.com/site/leedsandbradfordstudios/albert-sachs for further info I have put together on Albert Sachs

Hi
I am researching the Albert Sachs studios and you might be interested in some of the information I have found including a list of Albert Sachs photos which are numbered. This will help date your photo. https://sites.google.com/site/leedsandbradfordstudios/albert-sachs

I have quite a bit of information on Albert Sachs and his brothers who were all photographers. What design if any is on the back of this photo?

Hi

According to the RPS Photo Historian supplement Hubert Henry operated from 140 Manningham Lane from 1897 - 1908. He appears in the 1901 census living at 140a with his wife and daughter. The 1911 census shows another photographer Arthur Pain at this address.

He appears in the Byles 1898 and 1900 directory at 140 Manningham Lane.

Hi

If the other two backs are as this design then my best estimate for these is
17693 and 21026 between 1883-1886
42116 about 1893-94
This design was used when Albert Sachs had a studio at 8 Manningham Lane Bradford

Hi Wayne

The Albert Sachs studio operated in Bradford from 1873 til about 1922. Albert Sachs died in 1886 and the studio was most probably continued by his brother Oscar. I have a number of photos taken at the studio some numbered some not. The studio operated from the following addresses which may help date your photos. 1873-1877 151 Westgate, 1877-1881 20 Manningham Lane, 1881 20 North Parade, 1881-1889 1 Manor Street, 1883-1922 8 Manningham Lane. As I am researching the studio just now I would be interested in the numbers you have and the associated card design.

I am trying to indentify two people in old photographs dated around 1890. I need to start by identifying the regiments that both of them served in and possibly even the campaign.
