Hi Chris,

I have just seen your post and I think we are researching the same Ritchie family.  My husband is descended from David Ritchie and Mary Hill, through their son William.  I also think we met at the 1995 Ritchie reunion in Melbourne.

I have been doing a little research on the Ritchies and would love to share what I have with you.

Kind Regards,

Julie

Dear Beamer,

I am also researching the Greenhills from Abernethy.  I don't have Laurence and Betsy's M.C. but I have the details from Betsy's B.C. (1827), Laurence/Lawrence's B.C. (1828),  Elsie's B.C (1864).as well as her older brother Thomas (born 28.7.1855 at Abernethy.  Thomas' details also mention that his parents Laurence and Betsy Greenhill (m.s.Crarar) were married at Abernethy in 1852. They also mention Betsy was born at Chapelshade, Dundee and that Thomas was her second child.

I also think that the 1871 census for Betsey "CUAS" is probably mistranscribed and is indeed 'our' Betsey.  The children's names and order are correct.  Thomas is missing, but I think I have found him Salmon fishing with Laurence  in the 1871 Census.

I hope this is of help to you.  I have quite a bit of  Greenhill history -so if you would like more information, please contact me.

Cheers,

Meelin
