Isle of Man Lookup Requests / Mary Ann Quine
« on: Thursday 20 November 14 01:22 GMT (UK)  »
I would like to locate the grave and MI of Mary Ann Quine (1838-1914).  Her maiden name was Cowin.  She was married to William Quine who is buried in Onchan Churchyard along with other family members where she is mentioned as his wife but not included.  My understanding is that she was buried in Onchan and so could possibly be buried with her father who was Daniel Cowin (1808-1877). If anyone could help it would be appreciated.

Isle of Man Lookup Requests / Grave of William Quine (1829-1908) and family

I am trying to locate the grave site of William Quine (1829-1908).  He was born in Onchan, IOM and died in Liverpool in 1908 but I have evidence he was buried in Onchan.  He was married to Mary A. Cowin (1838-1914) in Bradden Parish in 1859 and summered frequently in the IOM.  I am not sure if his family members are buried with him.  Any help would be appreciated.

Mike, my g grandmother was Mary Ann,  the daughter of Daniel and Margaret.  She married William Quine in Douglas in 1859  Have you traced the lineage of her parents any further back or do you have any photos of the family?  If so I would like to get in touch w/you.  Bill Q

Ross & Cromarty / Re: Holm to Holmes

Thank you for your response.  I mistakenly typed Elizabeth rather than Kathrine Cameron.  My brain was churning over a whole herd of names at the time.  Your explanation of the name change, Holm to Holmes, certainly sounds logical.  I tend to forget that reading and writing was not wide spread at that time.

Ross & Cromarty / Holm to Holmes

I am trying to document the lineage of my mothers side of my family whose surname was HOLMES. Other people researching the same lineage have indicated that my gggrandparents would be Hector HOLM and Elizabeth CAMERON of Rosshire, Scotland.  Their son Donald HOLMES (1816-1885) was born in Rosshire and emigrated to Ontario, Canada in the mid 1800's.  The name change, HOLM to HOLMES causes me some doubt as to whether or not Donald was in fact born HOLM.  Does anyone have any info on name changes such as this?
