Thank you so much Liz. I began to think there wouldn't be a way round my problem. I tried to find an answer on Ancestry itself but I don't find their Help pages very helpful!! I'll try your way as soon as I get back to research - things are a bit hectic at the moment.

Happy Christmas and thanks again - Sandra

Can someone please tell me if I am able to separate a complete family line from my Ancestry tree without restarting? I have found an historically exciting line which is 'running out of control' and it would be much easier to view if segregated from the rest. :-\

Can someone advise me please? My great-aunt Jessie Watson emigrated to Rangoon, Burma. She sailed on the Gloucestershire from Liverpool on 26th December 1912. Her occupation is shown as 'maid'. Family 'lore' says that she married whilst overseas and then returned - alone - some years later, possibly a widow. Does anyone know how I go about finding a record of her marriage? As I don't know her married name I can't trace her on an incoming ship and, of course, I can't find her death record.

Lanarkshire / Re: George Golder (1780- ) and Jean Shearer (1779- )

That's encouraging, thank you. I've just heard from Scotlands People that the transcription error I reported (Goldie / Golder) has been confirmed and will be adjusted. They've even refunded some credits. I've also found a proven common link with an area in Glasgow called Glassford. That might help.  ;)

Thank you both for your help. I did wonder if the lack of reading skills could have had some bearing on the matter. I do try to 'prove' that I have the right person and have contacted someone through Ancestry but they got stuck in the same place as me!! I'll certainly try 'Jane' Shearer as I have her Birth Record (Jean) showing her father's name. I'll report back any success.

Has anyone else out there tried to trace back from the above two (my 3x grandparents) and found that the name GOLDIE, rather than Golder, seems to be the only option? I've searched and searched and can only assume that the surname has been recorded incorrectly on the various documents shown on ScotlandsPeople. I definitely know that Marion Golder (one of their children) was my great great grandmother and my father inherited the surname as his firstname. I'm stuck!!

Sussex Lookup Requests / Re: Leander Green

Hello Alison - Leander Green was my great-grandmother and she was born Linda Gladwin - in a tent on Mitcham Common. Green was her married name - James Green. She left him after the birth of their daughter, Unity. She then lived as a lodger with Alfred Thorpe and had many children with him. They eventually married in 1947.

Yes, her mother was Agnes Mearns Watson. Yes, I found Jessie on 1911 census, 26yrs old, living at home - no occupation.

Re 'John Watson' search - it's still ongoing.  I'm hoping to discover family connections through his other children, one of whom is Jessie.

Thanks for your help - Sandra
