Australia Resources & Offers / Re: Queensland Electoral Rolls
« on: Friday 23 November 12 23:18 GMT (UK)  »
hi guys
i have found on ancestry.com that you can search the QLD electoral rolls back to 1910, as i did researching my local area history, then i found when you look at the original record, you can change the date to find additional rolls for a particular area where you think the person you are looking for may be but do not appear in the search categories because of a change in spelling of the name, ie, vipon or vipond.

hi colin
i too am a great grandson of William and Sarah
Alice Nelson Sturgeon is my grandmothers sister, her name is Geane (jean) Sturgeon, Alice married William Arthur J Nicolson in Melbourne Australia on the 18 Mar 1926, William was a Sailor on the SS Moreton, he was born on the Shetland islands on the 12 Feb 1889. i have not yet found when Alice or Geane came to Australia, but going by what you have told me it must be between 1911 and 1926. in 1936 she is living in the western suburbs of Sydney in New South Wales, Nana Geane had married before coming to Australia, a fellow named Bertram Rance at the aged of 16 and had a child to him in 1916 (27 July), Bertram William Rance, in the 1901 census she is aged 7.  After she came to australia she married my grandfather Frederick Charles Cairns. and had one child my mother Alice Cairns who was born in 1931 and then Geane died in 1942. i dont have any photos of Alice but her daughter is still alive as at 2010 i spoke to her over the phone as she still lives in Sydney and i live in Queensland, i do however have only one photo of Geane Sturgeon taken before 1931 in rural NSW. you can contact me direct email (*) if you do that then i can send you an invite to my Ancestry.com family tree so you will be able to see what i have on our relatives. i'm not sure what relations we are but some kind of distant cousins
look forward to your reply fred

Argyllshire / Re: McMillan/Aitken Help please
« on: Friday 06 May 11 00:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi Monica
Thanks for your reply unfortunately Ancestry.com can not show original census records and i qoute
Unfortunately, we are unable to display the accompanying images of this census at present, despite extensive negotiation with the General Register Office for Scotland. Permission from them has not, as yet, been forthcoming. For this reason, and to enable you to continue with your family history research, Ancestry has heavily transcribed the Scottish Census records to ensure you have access to all key areas of information contained within this collection.

So i have no idea on how to get it without paying though the nose for something that may or may not be relevent to my family tree. Research the family on a limited budget is at times very difficult. again thanks for your reply

Argyllshire / McMillan/Aitken Help please
« on: Thursday 28 April 11 02:59 BST (UK)  »
i have been tracing back the McMillan's in the family tree and have come to a bit of a strange problem when looking for John McMillan's Parents, John is the 8 year old mentioned on the copy of the 1851 census, however when you look at all the McMillan's mention on this census that all list their father as Robert Aitken. As you can see from this census the address is East Park however when you look at the census for the McMillan's listed the address is West Park.
Also Lachlan McMillan at age 24 lists his father as Robert Aitken who is aged 38
as do all the McMillan's and list Robert's spouse Isabella as their mother.
Your help please with this one
