Kent Lookup Requests / Re: Grandad gone Missing?
« on: Tuesday 15 March 11 14:33 GMT (UK)  »
So many unanswered questions. I am going to try and locate details of where my grandmother was sent in Canada through the Barnardo organization. I wonder if when they went to England in 1922 where they visited and if they made contact with Victorias family. I understand that my father John and twin sister Ellen were born while passing through Montreal and then it looks like within 2 months they sailed to Liverpool. I have not been able to locate the ships list of that journey. I am just starting on this quest so I have a lot to learn as to how to get to the information. I so appreciate all your help. I did understand that the reason the family was split up was because of the loss of their mother and the fathers inability to care for all the children with poverty being an issue. It is sad to think that some of the siblings didn't know how many there were. It would also seem that a lot of the relatives are possibly still in England and also maybe Australia. I would like to find out what happened to the other 2 that went to Canada. Thanks again. Victoria

thank you so much for your input. My cousin found this list today on Ancestory.com and it would seem that Victoria came by herself and no siblings were with her. It anyone has any info on the other siblings and where they ended up we would appreciate it. We all were in Canada but I wonder where the rest of her family went.

Thank you so very much for your reply. I am Victoria the daughter of John Edward Noakes who was Victoria Diamond Jubilee"s son. Ellen and John were twins and born in Montreal Canada. Victoria and her husband Thomas met in Toronto, Canada. My father died in 2001 at 78years old. All his siblings have passed. As I said we didn't know much of my grandmother and only in later years found out she was a Bernardo child. I imagine the trip to Liverpool was a trip home for them but they did reside in Toronto and then Windsor Ontario. I have no idea what the entry into the US would have been. All the descendants of Victoria now live in either Toronto or Michigan. I live in Plymouth Michigan which was also where my Father lived. I imagine they are not in the 1911 census because they were sent to Canada. I was told by my Uncle that Victoria's father could not care for the children after his wife's death so he gave them up to the orphanage. So I guess that your partner is my Uncle. This is so amazing to finally find out some of this information about our heritage. I want to be able to pass this onto my children.

My grandmother is Victoria Diamond Jubilee Bough born in Windsor England. I was trying to get some information on her as we have very little and found your site. She was a Bernardo child along with some other siblings and was sent to Canada. Apparently she did not discuss her past much as it was troublesome. She did marry Thomas Noakes in 1918 and had four children, John Ellen Gorden and Shirley. She did pass at the age of 53 in Windsor Ontario. If anyone has any further information I would much appreciate it.
