Hi Joe

Have passed you message on to Tommy.  I did a bit of research, and was able to hook up with some on ancestry.com, which was fantastic as they had photos, I think i have saved them, if you want copies.  So your Grandfather and Tommy's were brothers, which makes you second cousins.  What a shame didn't find you earlier, they were out from Scotland in March and we took them to Sydney!!

My email for all things family history related is:

I can send you what I found out for Tommy if you like.

kind regards

Linda

Hi
My friend Tommy McCaw from Glasgow has just started researching his tree.  His Dad is Thomas McCaw, grandad was Hugh McCaw and Martha McKerracher, and great grandparents Robert McCaw and Catherine McCaughern.  Any info would be gratefully received.

Kind regards

Midlothian / 1891 census Newington Edin Midlothian - Tweedie
« on: Friday 13 January 06 08:10 GMT (UK)  »

I use the GRO site, and happily pay for it, it's a great source.
However, for some reason the "image" for the Tweedie family is not available on the GRO site, odd.

Was wondering if someone had a copy of the census and could tell me who was in the house, what was the address etc.  Its the Robert Tweedie aged 36 household.

Cheers

Hi Meg

We as in my mum, dad and the 5 children came out as 10 quid migrants in 1960; not sure where other members of the family scattered in the 1800's, I find surprises wherever I go.  Watch out though, genealogy is addictive!  good luck!

Berwickshire / Hills, Weatherly and Pringle - Berwickshire

"The Hills are alive...................", well not the ones I am searching for, but maybe I have a whole lot of Hills relatives out there.

My great granny was Elizabeth Hills.  She was born in Duns in 1864.  She had an illegitimate daughter Mary in 1885 and then married my great grandfather John Buchan Wilson in 1893 in Gourlay's Wynd (don't you just love the names?).

They had a number of kiddies including: Jessie Hills Buchan Wilson, John Hills Buchan Wilson; Thomas Hills Proctor Buchan Wilson; James Hills Buchan Wilson; Peter Hills Buchan Wilson (my grandfather) was born in Oldhamstocks (I just have to go there, what a great name); Frances Hills Buchan Wilson.  There was also a Leslie, but I think he must have belonged to another member of the family and was just brought up in the household.

Elizabeth's father was Peter Hills, and her mother was Jessie Weatherly.  His parents were listed on the marriage certificate as Thomas Hills and Jane O'Dodd.  However, I do not believe this is correct, as the death certificate of both he and his brother lists thier mother as being Jane Pringle.

I can find no record of Peter Hills birth, or any other siblings.  I also have no information on Thomas Hills or Jane Pringle.

Anyone out there searching for the same branch?

The never ending story of "who am I?"

Hi everyone.  My gr gr gr grandmother Janet Allan was born around 1829 to James Allan and Janet Lawson supposedly in Auchterarder. Of course I can find NO record of the marriage or her birth in Auchterarder.

I can't find a record of her dad's death, but I did so for her mother, Jane.  Jane Lawson Allan died in 1863 aged 79 in Auchterarder; so she was circa 1784.  She was listed as being the widow of James Allan and her parents had been John Lawson a farmer and Agnes Lawson (yes, same maiden name listed on DC).

Anyone out there searching for the elusive Allan's or the Lawsons?

Hi all

Yes, I know, searching for Wilson is akin to searching for Smith, or looking for a needle in a haystack. What a shame I have both names linked to mine!

OK, I can trace my great great grandmother; and I did find my gr gr gr granfather John (yes, alright, John is also a very common name, but it does go nicely with WILSON) aged 41 in the 1871 census in Forteviot where he was listed as a labourer/grocer (hmmmm). 8 years later he died of cancer of the rectum, (sounds nasty).

In the census it said that he was born in Dundee (circa 1830); His death certificate shows his dad as James Wilson and his mum as Jane Simon. Ok, so there is no record of them getting married, and there is no record of a John Wilson being born to those parents.

My only hope is that someone else out there is searching for the same little branch.

Thanks
Linda - OZ
