US Lookup Requests / Re: US Census Look up Request

Hi Teresa,

Lovely to hear from you.  My mother, (*), is the sister of your grandad.  She is still alive and well and living in Essex, England.  Another sister,
(*), also lives in Essex.  I remember hearing the story of Michael's two brothers from my Mum.  The place where they lived was a village called Ballinlaw, which is near Glenmore.  Michael was a publican and a farmer.   I don't think Mary, his wife, could have been the well known opera singer because she married young and had ten children.  That doesn't leave a lot of time for opera singing except, perhaps, in the bath!  I am in the process of compiling a Halligan family tree, so if you have any other questions I might be able to help.  Incidentally, do you live in Waterford?   I used to stay with my aunt Eileen (your grandad's sister) in Waterford during summer holidays when I was young.

Happy new year.

Pat (also known as Trish)

Thanks very much to you guys for the info.  I feel a lot more confident now in starting the search for the Irish side of my family.

Hello,

I am a grandaughter of Michael Halligan and Mary Quann from England.  Can I be of any help with any outstanding questions you might have?  My mum, Bridget, their daughter, says that her father was a ships carpenter in the merchant navy during both world wars.  In between he was a publican in Ballinlaw, co. Kilkenny.  Mum's eldest sister Eileen (now in her 101st year!) was definitely born in the US, I think the eldest brother Billy was too.  Joseph was, I think, born in Ballinlaw as were all the other Halligans, (there were 10 children in total).  My dad was one of 10 children as well so I can't even tell you how many first cousins I have!   ::)

Hello,   Someone (I think it was Moinear) last year was enquiring on this site about the Halligans of Kilkenny and the Quanns of Waterford.  I have only just found the post on Google and wondered if I could help.  We must be distant cousins since Michael Halligan and Mary Quann were my grandparents.  If you still need any info please contact me via RootsChat.  Thanks.
