You may want to check the Wigan Cemetery (Lower Ince) Records index for your family.  There are many Blackleges buried there of the R.C. religion.
Noticed a Nicolas Blacklege who may be yours.  Born Abt 1828 died 15 Jun 1877 age 49.  Died at 119 Birkett Bank.  Grave: G-342.  Religion: RC

I had a great aunt who had a pair of stockings very similar to those shown in the picture.  She was born in 1881 and assuming she wore them around age 20 or later, this would put the time frame around 1901- ?.
Hope this helps.

Lancashire / Re: finding the ship from Lancashire

Hi My kin,
The Thomas Wroe, that Emms found, is age 51, born Bury Abt 1874.  Passage paid for by Firm.  Occupation: Director.  Destination: Vancouver, B.C..  Date of Arrival 18 May 1925.  Port of Departure: Hong Kong.  This would not be the Thomas you are looking for, so you can eliminate.  There are no other Thomas Wroes on the Canada Passenger List 1865-1935 on Ancestry.

Unable to find any Caleb or Alice Wroe/Roe. No Thomas Roe arriving Abt 1879.  One arriving in Quebec 11 Jul 1870-born Abt 1849. Another Arriving 1867 Quebec b. Abt 1847.  Another arriving Quebec 1865 b. Abt 1830.  All the rest arriving in the 1900s.  Would help to have your Thomas birth year.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: Place of birth in 1911 census?
« on: Wednesday 25 March 09 01:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Carol....thank you for the hint of playing with the census.  I came up with Shevington too.

Heywood...thank you for checking all the census.

Mo....thank you for the marriage place of Jane Hothersall to Walter Rigby.  That is great.  I didn't have that.

OK....here goes.

Jane Southworth's parents are John Southworth 1833-1890 and Everilda Cowley 1830-1908.  Both from Mawdesley.
Jane in the census- places born:
1871-Wrightington
1881-Wrightington
1891-Shevington
1901-Mawdesley(Married to Richard Hothersall. 1st marriage)
1911-Shevington (Married to Walter Rigby. 2nd marriage)

In 1861 - parents living in Standish.
In 1871 - Jane and parents living in Wrightington

Lancashire BMD Index has birth 1869 sub-district Standish.

So was she born in Wrightington or Shevington?  I think in 1901 hubby may have put down Mawdesley.  I have not been successful in finding her baptism record.

Thanks everyone for all your help.  Getting closer!  :)

Cheers,
Iggy

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Place of birth in 1911 census?
« on: Monday 23 March 09 22:34 GMT (UK)  »
Trying to find place of birth for Jane Rigby (nee Southworth)in 1911 census.  Jane is inconsistent in naming the places she was born in all previous census. Mawdesley, Wrightington and Shevington.
Jane Southworth was born 1869/1870.

I found her in the 1911 index and her family, residing in Bolton, Lancashire but don't have access to the image.
Walter Rigby 1872 age 39 Bolton
Jane Rigby 1870 age 41 Bolton
John Hothersall 1895 age 16 Bolton

Hoping someone carry narrow this down for me.
Thank you.

United States of America / Re: What info would I find on a US Death Cert?
« on: Wednesday 04 February 09 06:42 GMT (UK)  »
I have death certificates from New York City for the years 1926 and 1936 and they do list the parents names. One has both parents names.  The other only the father's name and mother Unknown.

A great site for the NYC Death Index is:  http://www.italiangen.org/NYCDeathSearch.asp

It gives name, age at death, date of death, place of death and certificate number.  It has a form right there to order the certificate.

I found one James McAllister who died in 1931.  You might want to check the site out yourself as there are other James McAllisters, close to that year.

Surname Given Name Age Month Day Year Certificate Number County Soundex
Mcallister  James  49 y  Apr  23  1931  732  Richmond  M242

Good luck.
