I had that list on file, and was unsure if it was the Michael I was looking for. I have been trying to trace ours to the one on that list, and the dates are in line with our family.
Is there a way to trace this individual further. I know all the searches I have done in Ireland have yieled zero. Is it a matter of having someone go to the parish in that townland and looking at church records?

Rathmore, That is indeed our family. The dates on the Michael and Mary being born in 1765 has to be wrong. They had the first born William in 1808,and I doubt that they were  43 when they started having children. We also believe that those stones were placed much later than when they died. I would imagine sometime in the mid to late 1800,and the dates were mostly  an estimate.

Samuel is the son of John and Mary, and he was their last child.

We know where the original headstone are for Michael ,Mary,John and Mary. The problem with those are John and Mary, were done when they died, but we believe that his parents stone was put there later on by the familly. Maybe to replace the original markers. They are old and dont offer any information other than dates, and the birth dates are almost surely wrong.
Not sure if the Tithe books are available online, but it seems like they have made a business in Ireland around Geneology. I am almost at the point where I am going to plan a month long trip to try to track these records down.
Most of the people we can trace were born in Canada, and until last year we had no idea who the original immigrating family members were. The history back to the first Canadian family is well documented, but only the father and grandfather of this first family is the Irish connection, and the trail just stops there. The records seem to very limited before 1840 and not much available online. The key is to locate the townland and or parish, and then take it from there.
The local area were they settled has alot of printed articles about the marriages of the first canadian born members, and lots of deaths notices, but they dont reference where or even when emigrated they from. Even knowing the when they left Ireland would help narrow it down. We have managed to narrow it down to 1840-1847 but ther is alot of information missing in those years as far ships records, and even immigration records into Canada. I am just going on a long shot here that maybe some one else is looking for the same line of McHughs and sees this post. Thanks for the information.

aghadowey, That is correct, Tho only reason I was able to locate anythign about Johns parents was because his wife mary died, and he remarried  after they kept detailed records in Canada. We actually found the reference to Fermanagh because it was listed on Johns brothers death certificate. That is unusual as well, becuase most only list Ireland on the place of birth, but for somereason they listed the county as well.
I have been in contact with Ulster ancestry and they say they might be able tolocate something on Michael and Mary before they left, and it will involve looking throught the tithe records for some hint of a parish and townland, and then looking at all 52 parishes if that doesnt work. They have quoted me 450 canadian dollars,or 220 pounds. Does that sound like a reasonable number? I have no idea,as I have never done this before, and are these companies reliable?

They were alive and kicking in the 1900,. The first record we have is in 1849,and and we are pretty sure that the date the immigrated to Canada was between 1840-1847 just based on dates of birth and mirrage. I would be impossilble for them to leave prior to that based on hard dates.

Thanks for the replies. I have looked over all the ships record and immigrtion records for that time. There is very little on record for that time. I also was looking at the same time from emigrating ships from Ireland, but with the huge number of people leaving the country very few names are documented.
I was hoping there might be a location where they might have a hard copy. We are pretty sure that our family came right to and stayed in Toronto.

That is what I have been told. The only information I have that relates to anywhere in Ireland is on a death certificate that lists Fermanagh Ireland as the birth place of William McHugh. That is the only place I have to look, and I know there are 52 parishes in fermanagh, and without that it is a very wide search. I really dont have anything else to go on from the Canadaian side, and we can get a very detailed history with the documents and records in Canada. The search dies in as soon as we back to Michael and his wife Mary that left Ireland with what appears to be the whole family, and unless Michael had brothers or sisters that remained we just do not know. I am hoping that someone with some knowlege of these people who might be related is also looking for a connection. I know its a long shot, but at this point after looking for many years it is all I can hope for.
Thank you for the help.

This seems to be the problem. I cannot locate any definate dates that our family left Ireland.
I know that John's father Michael and his Mother Mary left with them, and Mary was born in 1765. John was born in 1818 and Johns wife Mary was born in 1821. William was born in 1808. The first real date I can verify in Canada is Johns Children. Thomas was born in 1849. So the best estimate I can give you is that They all emigrated between mid 1830,and 1847. Those two date are purly speculation, but I do belive that John and Mary were already married before arrivng in Canada.
Hope this helps out some.
