Hello, I'm joining this thread several years later. I have found a baptism for Eva in Colchester in 1878.

Eva
Residence Ardleigh
Last name Carrington
County Essex
Birth year 1877
Country England
Birth date 13 Aug 1877
Baptism date 23 Jun 1878
Father's first name(s) -
Mother's first name(s) Hannah

I have the ancestry for this line back to the 17C. Let me know if you'd like me to send it.

Thanks you've answered my question which (although I didn't articulate it clearly) is whether you can get false positives as I wondering about that. I'm tending not to take matches below about 18-20cm too seriously unless I can see an obvious link.

Does anyone know how reliable DNA tests are when the cm connection is low e.g sub 15cm?

The Common Room / Re: Ancestry family trees full of lazy errors

According to a tree on Ancestry my father died sixteen years before he did! Looking at the tree I don't think the owner is a relative just a connection and I haven't got the energy to correct her. I tend to use Ancestry trees as hints if I'm at a loss but always seek evidence before adding to my research. There are so many errors out there.

I’ve been having an entirely different issue - newspaper downloads are completely washed out.

I noticed that yesterday on a search but as the article continued from previous page went back one and that was fine. Then went forward to the original and was black and clear. So that was what I did next search to read. The word picks weren't their ususal blue either.

Thanks for the tip. I was having the same problem and after following your advice it works!

I've found that with my FindMyPast subscription I can get the records for free that I would have had to pay for on Fold3.
