World War Two / Re: Wait for service records
« on: Saturday 07 June 25 18:10 BST (UK)  »
I did what I was told to do at the time, which was to make an FOI request to the National Archives.  This was acknowledged with a lead time of about six months and I have had e mails since saying that they are dealing with my request, but nothing for over a year.

I was just curious whether I am an outlier or whether others are having a similar experience.

World War Two / Wait for service records
« on: Saturday 07 June 25 14:57 BST (UK)  »
I applied to the National Archives for my late father's WW2 service record as long ago as December 2023.  The first response I had indicated that the wait time would be about six months. I've had a couple of further e mails saying that they are working on it and I will hear soon, but the last one of those was over a year ago

I wonder if anyone else is experiencing the same, in which case I will sit tight or, if this is unusual, what, if anything, I should do now.

Thanks

Brilliant. Thanks. That's why it didn't come up when I tried the Dymond spelling in FreeBMD

That's why I was hoping for some local knowledge as I cannot find her on a census, can't find a marriage or a death.

I'm a reasonably experienced researcher, so I think it is probably her not me, but i do need to rule her out.

Northumberland / Mary Macdonald born Morpeth 1885

Mary Macdonald's birth was registered in the June quarter of 1885 in Morpeth with mother's maiden name Dymond (10b 393). Ancestry is giving me no hints whatsoever about her and I cannot find her in the members' trees either. Nor can I find a marriage for her parents in England Wales or Scotland.

I don't think she is actually the Mary Macdonald we are looking for, but without any more information I can't rule her out at this point.

Can anyone with more local knowledge fill in the gaps please? Thank you

Edited to correct date in heading

I have had some exchanges of e mails with Santana. Waiting for her to get back to me.

As you and Santana are the sane generation,  we share the same relationship.

Isn't Wiidcicj, which looks unpronounceable anyway, just a mistranscription of Woodcock?

Thanks all.

We found him in the end, thanks to the electoral rolls on FindMyPast. He and the rest of his household (three different surnames) are all misindexed.
