London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1901 Census - Frank Field.
« on: Wednesday 24 December 08 14:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm trying to locate the above person in 1901.  He was not with the main body of his family at the time of the Census.

Frank's full details are:-

Frank Field - born December Quarter 1898 at St. George's, Hanover Square.

Can anybody kindly assist by having a look for him and letting me know the Census entry for Frank and whoever he was staying with.

Thanks very much.

Shropshire Lookup Requests / Re: Bowen 1851-1871

Hi Tazzie,

I didn't think to look at a map either, as the family had been located consistently in Shropshire.

However, based on recent experience on trying to find someone in Lancashire, but not finding them there and then looking at the Wales census as a total longshot and finding them in Glamorgan, I now try the Wales Census as a matter of course if the England one produces no results.

That policy generally fails - but on this occasion it produced the goods!

Hi Brian, Sarah and Tazzie,

Where in 1861?  Wales!

It seems that Wortherton was deemed to be in Montgomeryshire in 1861 rather than Shropshire.

Anyway, here is the full entry:-

Wortherton, Montgomeryshire

John Bowen - Head - md. - 48 - Agricultural Labourer - b. Salop, Chirbury

Ann Bowen - w. - md. - 46 - Agricultural Labourer's Wife - b. Salop, Worthen

John Bowen - s. - unm. - 20 - Agricultural Labourer - b. Salop, Chirbury

Mary Bowen - d. - 13 - Scholar - b. Salop, Chirbury

Edward Bowen - s. - 7 - Scholar - b. Salop, Chirbury

Ref:  RG9 / 4255 / ED2 / f.19 / p.10

Hope this helps.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: Help please Halifax baptisms
« on: Sunday 05 February 06 20:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Chris,

There is a Grace Ann Robinson baptism at St. Johns, Halifax, on 19 July 1821.

No address is recorded on the only record to which I have access, but the father of this particular child is George Robinson, an Engine Maker, and the mother is Mary (no maiden name given).

How to Use RootsChat (Please don't post requests here) / Photos into Profile
« on: Sunday 05 February 06 20:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I'm just using this as a vehicle to try to annex a photo to my profile following berlinbob's instructions, so here goes (hopefully).

**Too big - I'll resize and try again.**

Hi Biker,

Yes - I've tried Newham Local Studies, but they were unable to help unless I formally instructed them and paid a (rather high) research fee.

Consequently, I was wondering whether there might be a rootschat member with local knowledge or access to local records who would kindly assist me.

Thanks,

Can anyone help me find out when my grandparents took over the grocery business at 144 Tunmarsh Lane, Plaistow, Essex?  It would have been after 1919 and before the 1930's.  Their names were Robert and Mary Ann (known as Polly) Marshall.

They may appear in London or Essex Trade Directories for that period.  Does anyone has access to these and be able to help me?

Thanks,

Lancs Rose
