Hi, RE: 1911 Census where Margaret Eames is a visitor at daughter Ellens house 'Perhaps she's there, rather than with Dorothy in Club Street because of the recent birth' Aside from the joy at visiting a new grand daughter- Margaret was also actuallyand interestingly a trained midwife herself.

Having searched the Parish records I was extremely disappointed not to find any record in Llanengan of the marriage of William Eames and siblings parents John (born c1811) and Ellin/Eleanor (born c1816) Emes. Does anyone have any further information to go on? Perhaps they were married in a neighbouring parish or even else where?
There was one new record found- a death in 1835 of a Mary Eames at the age of 74- a possible family relation, the mother of John perhaps?

Hi, William Eames born Llanengan c1838 married Margaret Williams born Bangor c1873 in St Nicholas Church Liverpool 26th November 1865.

My mother is certain that Margaret Eames nee Williams is buried in Glanadda cemetary so yes it seems logical that William was buried there also. Thanks EmyrBorth.

She is also certain that there is a Moses Eames buried in Llandegai Cemetery in Bangor- this may be the grave for the 1935 death?

I have recently found an Eames family Welsh bible, in which my grt grandmother Dora Eames b. circa 1887 has listed a number of important dates to the family. It does confirm the death dates of John and Evan Eames. The parents lost 3 children at a young age- the other being a baby girl Leah in 1878 aged just 5 months. Very sad.

Thanks for your replies. Corinne I dont think any of those William Eames are my family. It does show however that the Eames or Emes name is more common in North Wales than I would have imagined.
Taffess I agree it is likely he would be at sea especially seeing as he is a sea captain by 1871 census. The record I found however shows a William Imes note different spelling born Llanengan living in Liverpool with an Edward Imes born Denbigh and Jane born Brynycroes. Cannot quite make out profession on the census but I think it says gun maker. This leads me to question whether it is the same William but age and place of birth are correct. My William also marries in Liverpool in 1865 where his profession is listed as mariner not master. Very intrigued by this.

I concur that the results from free BMD confirm above posts. To confirm if indeed William Eames and son both met their tragic end together I think a newspaper report from the time would be the most revealing option. Not sure how to go about this?

Also, not seen the 'H' as in Moses H Eames in any other records for my Moses other than death record- is this normal? I think further research required here and maybe birth cert. Thanks

Can anyone find any information for William Eames from Llanengan in 1861 census? I have found one entry but in Liverpool and as a gun maker with unknown relatives. Ten years later he is a master mariner so not sure that what I found adds up really. ?

Hi my mother was told the tale of the drowning also but was told that it was the son Moses Eames who died so learning of Williams fate also is very sad and news to us. I wonder what type of boat they were attending to?

Hi, my great grandmother Dorathy and your Elizabeth were sisters. I started researching the family history a few years back but left it for a few years before recently typing in William Eames b. Llanengan of SS Petrel fame into google and finding your posts. Its great to confirm some of my research but I still have loads of questions too. We have the original marriage certificate for William Eames and Margaret Williams, photos and correspondance plus other info if youre still stuck in your research please do ask for further info. Meanwhile I wonder if anyone knows why William and Margaret were married in Liverpool? and where his parents John Eames and Eleanor (nee ?)  were descended from before Llanengan?
