Hi Jon,
Back to basics & track each one - you'll make the link.
If you make another post in the Lancashire page, someone may be able to tell you if there is a headstone
Marienne

Yes the basics are the important thing, I have been on this trail for almost 10 years to the day.

After summer late light digging I have come to the conclusion I'll need to visit to try and see if there is an inscription, might help explain the link.

A good starting point is on FreeBMD
Marriages Q3 1935 Liverpool S.
John A McDowell and Mary A Byrne on the same page

Boo

Thank you I spotted that last night, I presume the Mary who was on the title deed is not the lady who is buried there, more.

I am on a long long trail of trying to trace my grandfather Joseph Harold Byrne born in 1914, so far we have been unable to find a death date for him. The last photo and contact known is around 1960.

He was born in Liverpool and spent most of his life there when he was not at sea untill he moved to Manchester in the 1950s.

We have discovered so much including photos and story's that where not known of, but we still have not found his death, this one slipped under the radar as the death occurred in Birmingham and for a man who spent all his life working on or by the sea it would seem like a strange place to be. But now the cemetery records are available this has become a potential if only slight.

More digging required

Hello Everyone

Would it be possible to let me know who was buried at plot D137.

I have a record of Joseph Byrne being buried there on the 5th January 1973 but unsure if it is a public grave or if he was buried with any family.

Thank you for your time.

So it could make sense, I am still trying to get his pre war records so hopefully it will confirm or deny these thoughts.

Thanks for the help

Just been to the library and checked the Ancestry Passenger lists and there is a Joseph Byrne of the right age, height and build who worked a number of ships in the 30's and early 50's and landed in New York, I will do some more digging.

Does it sound reasonable that someone in the Merchant Navy would get a job working on a ship doing something other than their normal trade?

Sligo / Re: HOEY or HOY Sligo - Info available

Not really a look up request but the names stood out to me, I have just started on this branch of my tree and I have Hoy/Hoey's from Sligo, specifically the Lissadil area.

My Great Great Grandfather was James Hoy born in Approx 1871 in Sligo it is this family, Bridget is my Great Grandmother.

One question I have is how does the Hoy \ Hoey work, is a English / Irish version of the same surname?

I have all 4 of mine, pretty easy for 3 of them as they died in pretty recent history and I remember one of them, however I know have a picture of the one I had never even heard of, she is probably my favourite and most intriguing one of my ancestors so far.

Rosina Edith Gower      - 1872 - 1951
Eliza Doris Magee         - 1912 - 1986
Winifred Lilian Herrick   - 1906 - 1981
Bridget Hoey/Hoy         - 1901 - 1981

Winifred was born in London and died a few weeks before I was born, Bridget was born in Sligo and dies a few weeks after I was born. Eliza was born in Stockport, I have fond memories of visiting as a child, we called her GranGran.

Rosina as you can see was 30 years older than the next oldest, she was born in London in a workhouse although they where only there for a week.

Now I have put these 4 down in one list I have realised that they have been some of the most enjoyable to find out about so far.
