Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Re: Camberwell Old Cemetery

A very apt description, it is a mound indeed, along a 50 m stretch.
I wonder if there  are any images of it before the mound  was created.

Chris
Following on from your post, what we're the burial dates of the Hills.
I have an Ancestor interred 1877 in Square 7, and posted my observation and that of a resident who made a comment about this area of the cemetery in her living memory, so the 1960-80 period
On a different thread re this cemetry

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Re: Camberwell Old Cemetery

Just an observation following my brief visit 20-12-24.
I was specifically interested in Square 7 and 23, these are  at the Langton Road end running along the Woodvale perimeter. Where 2 ancestors were interred 1873 and 1877, so relatively early in the cemetery use. There was no indication that stones  if any have survived for .Jacob and Sophia WELLS.
Square 1/2+6/7+15 +28 appear to have very modern graves, and are at a higher level. I understand this was empty, and what appeared to be waste ground 1970-80, suggesting it had been overfilled pre 1970 perhaps in readiness for new graves.
Square 8 +16+24 and some of 23 have some Victorian era stones.
I did take  a few images of head stones in this area, and will make a list and submit it in the next week.
There must be a more comprehensive survey somewhere, especially if the old headstones were possibly removed prior to any preparation forcre-use.

Sussex / COOK family from Sussex - no idea where to look
« on: Sunday 02 June 24 09:57 BST (UK)  »
Has the researcher looking for his COOK family in Southern England  taken a DNA test to help identify COOK links?
I am researching my COOK ancestors in the Maidstone/Medway area 1840 backwards.
I would certainly back up other comments regarding  regional migration, one branch that involves my COOK/COOKE  family were moving around the home counties in connection with the  papermaking industry, one  part of the family from Norfolk, but found in the various mill sites In Surrey, Sussex and Kent, between 1820 onwards.

Kent / George WEEDEN's wife Louisa

Quote
"Their son, George Henry Weeden, (born 1834; bapt 1836), is my great great grandfather.  His death record states that his parents were George & Louisa Weeden.   His younger brother, Robert Henry Weeden noted in his marriage record, that his parents were George Weeden and Louisa Singleton. "
Robert Henry's birth registration details his mother as nee COOPER, as did Louusa his sister.
Sophia's birth registration not identified.

Kent / Charles WEEDEN and Sophia HILL
« on: Wednesday 06 March 24 06:47 GMT (UK)  »
I am currently researching the extended famiies of Charles WEEDEN and  Sophia HILL, but suspect my main focus is Sophia's ancestors.
I am investigating whether Sophia HILL's family is connected to the COOK/COOKE family of Maidstone.
This is due to the presence of Jacob WELLS at the WEEDEN household in 1851, the census entry has his age and name incorrectly interpreted. No coincidence that Jacob was a papermaker. (Connecred postings exist for WELLS and COOK enquiries)
His wife Sophia COOKE baot in Loose 1804. To John and Ann COOKE.
I will be looking for anyone with a DNA test  with a paper trail  ancestry with Sophia HILL or her assumed parents William HILL and Ann.

Kent / East Sutton COOK records mid 1700's
« on: Saturday 02 March 24 13:28 GMT (UK)  »
Observation- there is no batch reference on Family Search for this parish.
Unfortunately there is no one data base covering the surrounding parishes that might ordinarily help in finding people moving around.
There are three baptisms associated with William COOK and Dorothy HAMMOND who married in 2 March 1735( corrected)
John 30 Jan 1736  in East Sutton
Elizabeth 12 Nov I738 in  Chart Sutton
Dorothy 2 Jan 1742  In East Sutton
Does the PR of the marriage indicate the status of both bride and groom?
There is also earlier baptisms with parents William and Mary ( possibly Mary   WEEKS m in Aylesford 1731)
Anne 1 Apr 1732 in East Sutton
Elizabeth 1 Apr 1732 in East Sutton
Are these children described as twins ?
John 27 Mar 1733  in East Sutton
Anne 4 Jan  1735 in East Sutton
Are there any burial records of either Mary  or the two children that might suggest this is the same William.
A further baptism of an Ann  17 May 1741 in East Sutton is transcribed with parents William and Sarah, but it is not clear whether this is a PR or possibly a mis transcribed AT or BT record fir the mother.
A much earlier baptism of a William 1702 seems likely to be one of if not the William COOK.
Is this the complete list of COOK's from the East Sutton area.?
A Dorothy COOK and Thomas BURDEN are understood to witnesses at a marriage of Ann COOK in 1766, Believed to be the Ann COOK bapt 1741, A Dorothy COOK and Thomas BURDEN married In 1767, possibly indicating a close family relationship, adding some doubt to the mother of Ann being recorded as Sarah.

Surrey / COOK family in Southwark 1743 onwards
« on: Wednesday 28 February 24 22:33 GMT (UK)  »
John COOK married Martha AVIS in St John Horsleydown, Southwark 4th Aug 1743.
Certainly 2 but probably 3 children are identified as their children baptised In the same or adjacent  parish, but the first child almost 5 years after their marriage , and a gap 1752 to 1761.
For both early bapts John 's occupation is detailed as plaisterer, ( no identified Guild record yet)
Daughter Avis on 14th April 1748, buried 11th June  1748.
John Robert 1st July 1750.
Possibly Martha Mary 15 June 1763, St Mary Magdalene, Bermondsey, Southwark, Surrey, England, abode Holly, but occupation Porter.
There are baptisms for another 3  children to a John and Martha in this general area, that are probably not the same couple, but a John COOK and Martha PRYKE married 12 May 1759 in Holborn
Elizabeth Skelton 29th Aug 1759, father is John (elder) St Paul, Shadwell, Tower Hamlets, no occ for father.
Esther 25 Dec 1760,  St James, Clerkenwell
Elizabeth 12 Feb 1767 St George the Martyr, Queen Square, Camden, Middlesex.
The main question is what adjacent or close parishes are not currently covered on the main Genealogy sites as searchable records.
This might allow those parishes to be targetted and checked for additional siblings.
It is possible that John and Martha migrated, and specifically to Kent. The occurrence of the name Avis as a forename in a COOK family in Kent might be a link, and is the catalyst for this family to be researched as potential ancestors . A previous posting of COOK in Brasted Kent is part of the overall research.
Martha's AVIS family appears to be identified in St Olave, but is not the intended target for this post.
If current records on line  are anywhere near complete, it would seem that Martha'' parents , Robert ( occ baker) and Mary married in Withyham, Sussex, before migrating to Surrey, this seems plausible as Robert and Mary don't appear to feature in baptisms in Sussex after their marriage.
