Aberdeenshire / Re: Mary Robb - Whose the parents?

My surname is also Robb and my ancestors come from Aberdeenshire, but none of the forenames you mention are the same. I also have a Jaffrey's as ancestors using the foregoing spelling but it has also been spelt Jaffray. If you have not already tried these variations perhaps it would be worth a try. My ancestors all originate from the Methlick, Fyvie, and Auchterless area between about 1700 and 1900.

Good luck with your ongoing enquiries

Hello Martin

Perhaps you should read 'The Diary of a Canny Man' which is a very interesting book giving diary entries of Adam Mackie who was a Farmer, Merchant, and Innkeeper in Fyvie and covers the period 1818-1828. It may give you a few ideas. If you can not get a copy of the book to read you could read a few of the Reviews available on the internet

Tony

Thanks for your help. I have looked at the Kildrummy link and like you indicated, they are probably another group of Robbs, all of which were born after the turn of the 18th century in another locality. Never realized that Robb was such a popular name, particularly in Aberdeenshire.

Regards

Aberdeenshire / Robb Family in Aberdeenshire

I am trying to obtain information on the parents and the paternal grandparents of of Alexander Robb (born 19th August 1807 at Fyvie) I know his father was James Robb who married Jean (Jane) Sim, and I know that James Robb's parent's were Alexander Robb (or Rob) and that his mother was Margaret Wilson.

IGI searches have confirmed the relationships but do not provide their date or place of birth. All the information that I have obtained places them all in the Fyvie, Methlick, and Auchterless, but unfortunately there seems to be a large contingent of Robbs in that locality, which causes confusion.

If anybody can provide any additional information or suggest how I can obtain some from other sources, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks
