Not sure if this could perhaps be your Stanley Herbert who left UK for South Africa in about 1917 leaving Annie Edith (nee Aldridge) and the children in UK.  Found this on the South African Archive website.  If this is him, then seems he remarried in South Africa.

I have a Stanley Herbert Boxall (c1882) married to Annie Edith Aldridge (c1881) - married 11/04/1903 in Ealing, London.

Stanley's father was Albert Alphonse Boxall.  Annie's father was Edgar William Aldridge.

Stanley and Annie had 3 children, Hilda Boxall (c1906), Winifred Grace Boxall (29/11/1907 Croydon) and Edgar Stanley Boxall (c1910 in Croydon).  Stanley left England in 1917/1918 to go to South Africa (he left Annie and the children in England) and they never heard from him again.

Winifred Grace Boxall married Frank Rowlands and they had 4 children, Marian (c1928), Rowland (c1930), Owen (c1932) and Janet (1938) all born in UK.

Strangely Janet married Rodney Clark (born in Durban, South Africa) but they married in UK.

Rodney Clark is my connection to the Boxall family.
