Kilkenny / Re: Robert Ransford 1700's or 1736 Birth Kilkenny
« on: Wednesday 11 April 12 01:07 BST (UK)  »
I have just come across this website with Ransford.  We have two Ransford (Rainsford) in our Connor family.  Anne Ransford married Patrick Connor, probably in Celbridge, Kildare, she is certainly buried in the ROI churchyard.  Family legend/myth has either her or her mother Elizabeth being wetnurse to the Wellesley family.

Our Connors who lived in Celbridge apparently lived in the house that Arthur Guiness lived in.  We have been to the house and seen the deeds.  We were further interested to see Rainsford Street near the brewery, and found a deed given to Arthur Guiness signed by the Lord Mayor, Ransford.

We believe our Ransford not being of the landed gentry, but possibly a very poor relative of the Dublin Ransford, but have not been able to find much more about them.  Only by searching the web, have we come up with further details.

One of our ancesters was Anne Rainsford who married Patrick Connor and lived in Celbridge.  She was daughter of Elizabeth Rainsford, who could have been a servant of the Wesley/Wellesley family.  They both could have been born in England and brought to Ireland with the Wellesley family, Elizabeth could have been a nurse to Arthur Wellesley (family story).  Looking for another information.

Kildare / CONNOR - CELBRIDGE

Research Connor family who lived in the Finey House, Celbridge in the late 1700's.  It would appear they were shoemakers, the resident of the house was Patrick Connor married to Anne Rainsford.  They had at least one son Arthur, possibly more, but no information.  Have contacted the church records in Dublin - Arthur was born in 1814 and later emigrated to Scotland - have all records and papers from his life in Scotland.  We are led to believe he had brothers who stayed in Celbridge.  Looking for any leads, believe there was a James Connor married to an Anne, James is listed as a servant.  Family myth/history says Anne Rainsford, daughter of Elizabeth Rainsford where in service to the Wesley/Wellesley family.
