Hi sunshine 333,
About Matilda.
Looks as if her name was Phoebe Matilda ALLGOOD born 19-7-1823 Surrey England. Christened 10-8-1823 Wandsworth Borough, Battersea, Surrey England. Parents William and Ann (not sure yet of her maiden name. ??Wilkes.. a Wm Allgood marr. Ann Wilkes 6-9-1820 at Chelsea, Midlesex. St. Luke's Parish. Kensington and Chelsea Borough.

From the Australian Convict Transportation Registers - Other Fleets & Ships, 1791-1868
At a trial conducted in Surrey (Newington) Quarter Session 13-9-1841, Matilda was sentenced to 7 years transportation to Van Diemen's Land for larceny. Ticket of Leave granted 5-11-1844

Image 23, No. 154 CON40-1-2 Surnames beginning with A -C. CON40 "Conduct Registers of Female Convicts Arriving in the Period of the Assignment System 1 Jan 1803 - 31 Dec 1843"
Archives Office of Tasmania.

I have seen the name Burton used in relation to a Maryann Burton who married Hector Dallas in New South Wales, Aust. in 1861. The Maryann is said to be Mary Ann Allgood/Burton.
I cannot find a record of Mary Ann Algood being transported to VDL but there is a record of Maryann Burton, coupled with the name Sarah Pierce. Could these have been aliases ??

Dick
