London and Middlesex / Re: Sarah Sutton's (1822-1891) novels?
« on: Monday 16 March 20 10:20 GMT (UK)  »
I was very interested by your message about my 4xgreataunt Sarah Sutton, not least because I've only just found about her. Although I can't tell you any more about her than you know already I have a lot on her Sutton, Knight, Salvidge and Tutton ancestors. But of even more interest is her sister Elizabeth, my 3xgreatgrandmother, who married William Williams a commission agent from Pontypool, son of William also a commision agent. Given all the Welsh Williamses I have long hit a brickwall, which as a genealogist for over 40 years is both frustrating and humbling! Have you managed to trace this line back further, and how do you connect? As we are likely cousins have you taken a DNA test and might I be a match? My results and my own vast tree are on most sites but my main one is Ancestry (ERRINGTON One Name Study Tree). Sorry to bombard you with questions! Hope you are receptive...
Kind regards, Roger Errington

Thank you for all this valuable information, 'Nookie'! The thread was started 5 years ago I see by a chap who was presumably a descendant, but may not still access RootsChat. Although this South African branch is only distantly linked to mine, it's certainly been useful to find out what happened to the daughters and I shall be adding the details to my Ancestry.com tree...

There's no evidence George M's brother even left the UK. He married in Kingston, Surrey in 1917 and his 3 children were all born here. I suspect the William ERRINGTON of the medal is from a different family. More than one set of Es emigrated to SA.

Certainly, Gazania. Scottish ERRINGTONs are pretty thin on the ground and we may be able to help each other. I look forward to the details...

Hope the following is helpful, Suse: marriage of George Macquire to Margaret Ann ERRINGTON on 3 Aug 1834 at Weston-Favell, Northamptonshire.

Just to confirm, Gazania - the Robert who married Avis Finch is almost certainly Harrington. Errington looks like a transcription error at the time of their marriage as no Camberwell Robert ERRINGTON fits the bill according to my researches.

Message for Hezekiah - Allan is right! James Albert ERRINGTON who married Ada Wager (nee Emmerson) in 1910 was born in Sunderland in 1879, youngest son of John, shipwright, and Mary Anne (Hodgson). John was the youngest surviving son of Richard ERRINGTON, the original brassfounder and his wife Margaret (Redhead).

George Minnikin's brother William Dickson Errington died in Tynemouth in 1927, so it doesn't look as though he followed his brother to South Africa...

Gloucestershire / Re: GULWELL family - Badminton, Glos.

I've only just spotted your post. Your William Gulwell married Gwladys Rees in Sep 1915 in Chipping Sodbury. They had no children (Joan R was the daughter of another William Gulwell) but Gwladys' second marriage was to George Purcell, by whom she had 2 sons and a daughter (who is still alive). The eldest son Ivor died in 2006 but his widow is also still alive and their younger daughter Jane is my sister-in-law! If you want any further information feel free to email me on: *
