Cork / John Donovan and Ellen Sullivan from Clonakilty - convict to NSW
« on: Saturday 12 February 11 20:59 GMT (UK)  »
Greetings,
my family (Power/Lindwall) in Australia are descended from a Mary Donovan (who became Mary Power). She emigrated to NSW Australia in 1834 aboard the James Pattison. I believe she probably came after her father a John Donovan, probably a convict. We think the family came from Clonakilty and thanks to the Irish geneology website, I now believe her mother was Ellen Sullivan, not an Elizabeth Mahoney as previously thought (although there were Mahoney's listed on her birth notes and a Bridget Mahoney was on the same ship).

Just wondering if anybody has links to this couple? We have a lot of information on their descendants who made a successful life as farmers and gold miners on the NSW south coast. Unfortunately, Mary died quite young (48) but not before she had many children - founding the Power / Lindwalls.

O'Donovan / Donovan - I am researching one Mary Donovan (b 1815), daughter of John Donovan (b 1785?) and Ellen Sullivan (probably) from Clonakilty.

Family story is that Mary followed her father John to Australia in 1834 (he was probably a convict who was transported about 1821). They both died in Wyndham, NSW in about 1860/61. She was only 48 and is my ancestor. I too would love to connect to the Donovan Clan in Ireland.
