Hi,
Have just found this. I have a link to the ship Java, although not to the ships captain (we share the same surname).
My link is with a GGG Grandfather and family who arrived on this vessel. I find it amazing that the ships surgeon could have the nerve to wash his hands of any care to the 400 odd emigrants. I understand that a large percentage of the deaths on this passage were children...
There is a book written by Stephen Michael Barnett titled JAVA, I found my copy at the South Australian Maritime Museum (sorry I do not know how to install a link to the museum). This book has lots of info including a passenger list for the February 1840 voyage.
