Dear Sarah, Yes, I would be very grateful if you moved it.  Sorry for the delay.  Living rels took up too much time!  Thank you also Carol.  Diana

Thank you for fixing the photo Sarah, (I tried) and thanks for your date estimate Carol.  I set myself a task to look through the Leicester Mail (so stamped on the back, but no date) to try and find out who the relative is (pretty certain it is a relative)  This can only happen when I am in Leicester, about every 2 years. I have managed about 2 years so far. Diana

Moi? :)  Well, I actually filled in all in properly, but it still wouldn't accept my post code.

Please could anyone pinpoint within a decade when this old soldiers funeral might have taken place at Gilroes Cemetery in Leicester?  Does 1940 look about right?

BTW chempat, I tried the Gazette, but it/they would not accept my postal code as being true!  (Also, they want an awful lot of personal information.) Diana (in Canada)

Hello, Could anyone please direct me to a site/place that gives details of past OBE awards - the people and the reasons.
I would like to have more information on a great uncle, W.R. Quinn (died March 1926) who was given the award for rescuing girls from a burning shell filling factory at ?Rugby during the Great War.
Many thanks.  Diana

Nottinghamshire / Re: Thomas Johnson and Ann (maiden name?)

To Annie65115 and CaroleW and other helpers.  I have received the birth C. of Henry B1848, (Basford 15-439) Unfortunately, not my Henry:( These parents were Joseph Johnson, a collier, and Hannah Johnson, nee Shaw. Residence Marpool.  As I understand the authorities didn't really enforce birth registrations until the 1860's, I think perhaps Thomas and Ann didn't comply. I will keep checking lateral lines though, and see where they lead. Do you think Ann is likely to be commemorated in Eastwood Churchyard?

To Dave, "Retired Traveller"  Would you please check your book on the Chilwell explosion for me?  I have a great uncle who I was told also won an OBE at this time.  His name is Quinn.  Many thanks
Diana
