The Common Room / Re: Problems accessing Trfibal Pages?
« on: Friday 01 June 18 09:03 BST (UK)  »
Nice to be told the problem when TribalPages Support replied to my email here it is:

Sorry about that. Yes, we did have a serious outage due to technical issues. Being in the United States, it was 3am for us and were on minimal staff. It took us longer than expected to get the resources to fix this at that time of night.  It is all good now. Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience.

So now we know.

After taking a long break and returning what should I find, not one but three devices all connected to Tribal Pages.  I had left them in limbo trying to connect, and eventually all did just that.   Thank you to everyone who tried, and glad I was not alone in having a problem connecting.

I suppose the TP server was down or they rectified their security certificate which may have been the cause of the problem.   Thanks again.

The Common Room / Problems accessing Trfibal Pages?
« on: Thursday 31 May 18 11:51 BST (UK)  »
Today all of a sudden I cannot access Tribal Pages(TP), a website I use daily. No matter what browser I keep getting 'can't reach this page' messages. Perhaps TP is down but all of a sudden its 'Certificate' is not recognised with its https log in.  Has anyone had the same results or known if the site is down?

The Common Room / How does 'of this parish' differ from 'indweller'
« on: Monday 27 November 17 16:44 GMT (UK)  »
In a recent English marriage registration c1700 residents are shown as 'of this parish' and 'indwellers' (of the parish), Can anyone say how they differ?   First thoughts established residents and transient or yet to become established?

Census and Resource Discussion / Re: Abbreviation ORF in the 1939 Register

Finally have it sorted, the words are Prior to 21.10.49 and ORF is the area code for Brieley Hill, Staffs whilst in 1939 she was in QHA -Dudley.  They married in the 3rd quarter of 1949 in Dudley.   The M must simply stand for married.

Census and Resource Discussion / Abbreviation ORF in the 1939 Register
« on: Monday 06 November 17 10:23 GMT (UK)  »
I found the abbreviation ORF[space] M with what looks like 'Price[but could be Prur?] to 21.10.49 as a blue ink amendment on a female ancestors page in the Register.  There was a score through of her surname and another written over (which is not queried) but need to know what the ink amendment means. Any clues?

The Common Room / Re: What does pwc mean on the 1939 register?

In my ancestor's case the annotation in green ink is on the right hand page and can be made out as 'PWC - 77/28 38'     Reading other postings I would imagine it applies to Post War Credits and as he died in 1974, presumably paid to his estate?

Banffshire / Re: Scottish "Tee" names

Can I just say a big thank you to all who responded on the fascinating subject of 'T' names.  I learned an awful lot and now understand how some of those researched by me (in Banffshire) got their 'extra' names.

Thank you and yes Easter Ross fishing community was cited by my original Researcher and now know they are also known as 'By-names' and often in Gaelic.
