New Zealand Completed Requests / new zealand electoral roll 1949
« on: Friday 09 November 12 21:02 GMT (UK)  »
hi,

I have a very specific question about the NZ electoral rolls. In 1949 there must have been two as my partners mother and father have two separate entries. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT MONTHS THE TWO WERE TAKEN IN.

This is important as my partner was born in early April 1950 and her mother is still with her first husband on the first electoral roll and with her second husband to be on the second electoral roll.

Thanks

hi,

My great grandad was Edward Lynch born 1866 Huddersfield. He lived in Lowerplace Castleton Rochdale until approx 1905 and then moved to Middleton Manchester. We were told he was a buffalo member.

Please see attached pic of him. Any info of where they met or anything else would be great.

Thanks

IT WILL NOT LET ME ATTACH THE PHOTO - TOO LARGE - NEVER MIND

Lancashire / St Clements Longsight marriage - Bandman
« on: Tuesday 06 March 12 13:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I have the marriage certificate for a relative married St Clements Longsight Manchester 1929. The marriage was between Frederick Johnson and Annie Hicks. Their parents were James Johnson (dec'd)  and Benjamin Hicks (dec'd).

My question is - What is a Bandman? James Johnson is noted as a Bandman. The only thing i can think of is that he said bandsman and they wrote bandman? The best match on the 1911 census is a Dairyman!

Any help would be appreciated

Also, if familysearch/ancestry etc not great for pre-37 irish searches, which is the best site for bmd in those earlier years?

thanks

Ireland / darby cox - GRIFFITHS EVALUATION
« on: Saturday 26 November 11 18:04 GMT (UK)  »
hi,

After buying a marriage certificate for my ancestor Christopher cox (born approx 1817 Ireland married Eliza Alcock in Manchester 1840 - she was born in Waterford approx 1817), I have found his father was called Darby Cox and he was a labourer.

I cannot find any birth/marriage etc results on several sites (such as ancestry and familysearch) EXCEPT for two Darby Cox's on the Griffiths evaluation and the Tithe appointment books (one in Roscommon the other in Leitrim).

My question is - Are these two types of sources very comprehensive - or, in other words, would every Darby Cox who was renting a property appear on the Griffiths evaluation and Tithe sources?  Would a ordinary person like a labourer even appear on these sources or would it just be people with businesses or farms etc?

thanks for reading

Ireland / Re: edward lynch - mary ann campbell

hi,

on one census they are born in wakefield as you noticed but on all the later census Mary Ann is born Ireland and the children range from Huddersfield to Rochdale - it seems on that one census was inaccurate.

Thanks for reply and the links as well
