Hi Tikva,
Sorry but it was some years ago and I see by their website that Dorward House is now a residential  home for older people. I would imagine the records would have been sent to Angus Archives. I would suggest you try mailing them. Sorry I can't be of more help but I live in W.A. now so have no local contact.

Jim.

Hi Sarah. Some years ago whilst researching my father's family I found that 2 girls had been admitted to Dorward  on their mother's death in 1890. Their father had deserted them. I wrote to the matron and she very kindly photocopied the entry from the 'Register of Inmates'. I seem to recall that she said the records were kept in the attic. Hope this helps.

Not sure why the REME badge is featured but Tomscot is also correct. Wearing the Royal Signals badge on the left breast signified the wearer was serving with a Royal Signals unit. The WRAC ceased to exist when female personnel were fully integrated round about 1990 or slightly later.

The 75th amalgamated with the 92nd on 30 June 1881 and became The Gordon Highlanders. The Regimental Museum is in Aberdeen. Google Gordon Highlanders where there is more info.

Sorry to disagree but jankers was not detention. Not in my service anyhow. Jankers was CB (Confined to Barracks) or in later years RP ( Restriction of Privileges). Both usually entailing some form of fatigue duties and things like show parades.

Hi John,
You are probably aware of this but just in case!! Google Soldier Magazine, select Digital Edition, scroll down left side and select September 2012. Starting on page 43 there is a 5 page article on The Peninslar War. Incidentally, some time ago I read in a book that the Regimental Colours of the 94th were laid up in Edinburgh Castle after disbandment in 1818. Unfortunately I can't find my reference.

Armed Forces / Re: MILITARY UNIFORM ID PLEASE
« on: Monday 05 March 12 14:03 GMT (UK)  »
I'd like to add some more confusion!I agree with James that he is unlikely to be a soldier. The uniform items are a complete mis match.Piper's type glengarry with cockfeather, drummers plaid,Lowland doublet, (Highland type don,t have 'tails'below the waistbelt in front),officer/WO1 epaulette with possible stars,no collar badges, walking out swagger stick,drummers/soldier type white belt, hosetops worn by amongst others Argylls(note double L)Gordons and Seaforths. My final point is his legdress. The left leg is dressed correctly.Nothing more needs to be said about the right leg.He was definitely not subject to an inspection before leaving barracks!
The badge on his sporran is similar to some militia/volunteer regiments in the 1800's.A clearer picture of his belt buckle would help a lot.
Not a lot of help but it may rule out some options.

Yes I agree but if Clyth is Alyth, given that this is a shipping document Casey could well be a misinterpretation of Eassie. Like the N East, Angus has it's own accent.

I suspect it is a transcription. The 3rd line on the original post seems like a baby born on board which would agree with an immigrant ship.
