Trish1120:

Thanks for such a rapid and promising response.  Time to hop over the border and look in Lynton.

We are meeting next week for a memorial of Ruth Hunter Leighton, William and Joan Latham's great x 6 granddaughter.  She would have been thrilled to hear of her Somerset and Devon roots.

Kent Lookup Requests / Which Philadelphia Osborne, Cranbrook?
« on: Friday 28 January 11 04:13 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for the family of the right Philadelphia Osborne who is reported at Mid-Kent Marriages and IGI as married to James Iggulden 1778 at Goudhurst, Cranbrook.

The one I thought was the best candidate, daughter of Rosamund, born in 1740 died in 1742.  My Philadelphia's granddaughter had Rose as a middle name (Sylvester Rose -yes, a girl -  daughter of John Knowlden and Dorothy Iggulden).

Can anyone point me toward the right Osborne family?

Thanks

Betty of Kent:

Thank you for the post of Tenterden information - my wife is also a Duodecimus/Elizabeth descendent (we have recently determined).  I saw the tree posted by Nancy on Worldconnet.Rootsweb and when you include Anthony Knowlden's children by his first wife the children actually fall into number-name order except the must have been another that was 8th or 9th to get 10 and 12 in the right places.

So, any clues as to the right Cheney family for Elizabeth?

Allow an American cousin to come in late on this conversation.  My thanks to donagher for getting it started and Trish and gasser for providing so much information at once.  My wife is a Latham descendant from EDWARD, (ch 06 February 1803) son of William and Joan and husband of Sarah Jane Stenner (of Selworthy).  I only just found their names and dates from a recently published Michigan death record.
This part of the family came to Canada for a few years, then part (brothers John and Edward [who married a Hobbs from Polock/Selworthy area]) moved to Port Austin, Huron County, Michigan.
Gasser mentioned having done a lot with the Latham line.  If it includes the Porlock family I would like to compare what I have gleaned/concluded for family units.  If that checks out then I have questions about the pre-Porlock origins of the family (I read Brenden, Devon someplace) and the quest for the maternal families which I believe to be Joan Taylor (Dunster?), daughter of Philip and Alice Beague, but that is another thread if we don't share that side of the family.
Regards
