Thank you for your reply. I had managed to mix up my dates. I was actually looking for the mother of the Thomas born in 1779 but you kindly furnished me with this information. I don't suppose you have any imformation about Joan Shorland née Peddle? I feel bad about taking up so much of your time but thank you, nevertheless.

Thank you for all the wonderful information. It is greatly appreciated. I wonder if you could wave your magic wand and help me to discover the name of the mother of Thomas Shorland born in 1788. The records show his mother as being Joan Peddle but in the will of his sister born in 1784 he is mentioned as a sibling together with John and Eunice. Her mother was Eunice Warry married to Thomas Shorland (b 1745/6)
I can only suppose that Joan was the first wife but can find no record of her death

I was very interested to see your post re John Shorland. I wonder if you would let me know where you found the details of his mother's maiden name. I am researching Sarah Shorland born in Yeovil in 1802 and I think that John may have been her younger brother. I know that her mother was a Sarah and her father was a Dr. Thomas Shorland and according to her death record, her mother's maiden name was Pillars - christian name not given. This form, though, was completed by her son-in-law and he may have put the "s" in the wrong place! Sarah married a William Willmington in 1822 in Yeovil, Somerset and emigrated to Australia in 1840 together with her husband and numerous children. I hope you can help. Many thanks

I am trying to find out who Thomas Shorland was married to. The couples daughter Sarah was born in Yeovil, Somerset in 1802 and I think they may have had a son John born in 1805. I have two possible surnames, Spiller or Pillars. I would appreciate any help or suggestions. Many thanks
