Hi

Was Barney really Bernard?  If so - this is his death reg

Bernard G Finnegan aged 43 December qtr 1953     Llanelly  Volume 8a Page 304

Llanelly was the registration district for Kidwelly

I very much doubt there would be a photo of him in Wales unless the family provided one for any possible item in the newspaper

yes, he was really Barney and that is the year he passed away. where can i find this? thank you.
i believe he was actually due to return home for good at chrsitmas, but sadly didnt make it.

thank you all kindly.
I have gone onto the Kidwelly history site and seen pictures of the town where he would have lodged, i found it very moving, also the photo of the brickworks, i wonder when they were taken.
i couldnt help but thrown myself back in time and try to imagine where he lodged, what his work title was or what exactly he did.
actually, even though i never met him, i find this all very emotional because he is a part of me.

thank you all again

hiya jim
my grandfather died in an accident in kidwelly, sisilica brickworks,if i have spelt that correctly.
He died in late 40s or early 50s.
his name was barney finnegan and he was working away from his home in ireland. my mam was only 4 so she doesnt remember much and there are no photos at all, which is sad.
i know there is a plaque somewhere in the town in his name and he was a popular man. i have a newspaper cut out with no dates on it.
do you know if and how i can find any info and hopefully a photo.
thanks you
Karen

hi,
can anyone tell me how i might find a plague in kidwelly dedicated to my grandfather and perhaps a photo of the workers in stephens brickworks before it closed down. His name was Barney Finnegan, i think it may have been mis spelt as fennigan.
I know he died in dec 1953 after a tragic accident involving a tram in the brickworks. He was meant to be coming home for good to ireland that christmas but never made it. my mam was only 4 so she never know him and nobody has a photo of him. i wonder if its possible there are photos of the workers somewhere or perhaps someone remembers his passing. i know he had a led lined coffin and was very popular. There must be a memory or a story passed along in a family as the newspaper cutting said it was the most impressive sight Kidwelly had ever seen with choir songs and the streets literally lined with hundreds of people for my grandad to walk him to the ferry.its a very emotional part of my history and i would love even to know what he done in work, perhaps where he lodged ect.

sorry, somehow i locked this, any replies are very much appreciated

Carmarthenshire / Kidwelly 1953 Barney Finnegan tragic death info pls

Hi all
My grandfather went to work in wales in the 40s as we had no work in ireland.
he worked for Sicilica brickworks in Kidwelly, he also died here involved in an accident with a rail trolley. I know he pushed another man out of the way but didnt get away himself.
I believe there is a plaque in the town somewhere in his honour and he was sent home here to ireland for burial.
however,my mam was only 4 when he died and remembers nothing as he worked away a lot, there are no photos of him either and i really would love to see a picture of him as i would have loved to have known him, i believe he was a good character and well liked.
Can anyone help me or direct me to any info i could get, about the death, his life, his work and hopefully a photo.#

this means a lot to me.
thank you
Karen
