I am trying to find out more about Thomas Beveridge, my four times g grandfather. All I know he was born around 1800, probably in fife, he married  Catherine Galloway in 1830 and had two children in Kinghorn Fife. His wife is listed as a widow on the 1851 census, and cannot find him on 1841. Thomas Beveridge was a merchant seaman, as was his son Henry.

I would love to know where he was born, and find out where he died, as I cannot find any death certificate either. It's possible he died at sea, but have found nothing like that, though maybe I have looked in the wrong places.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Hi,
I had a similar 'odd' cause of death listed on my gg grandfather's death certificate. He died in Newburgh, fife in December of 1896 and the cause was simply listed as 'alcoholism' - which I always thought a bit vague and not very medical like, he was only 57 and although that is a decent age for back then, his father lived into his 80's and died only a couple of years before. Strange.
Any thoughts most welcome!

I agree, it is marvellous who and what you can find on your ancestors just by visiting a forum, and coversing with like-minded folk! Thank you!

Hi,

I have just signed up on here after finding a thread about my g grandfather's brother (Peter Mclaren) and his family, it was quite by chance after searching for one of the childrens names on google (unusual middle names are wonderful!) I have posted a reply to the thread and hope the poster of the messages will get back to me soon. I have being trying to trace Mclaren cousins for years and years! If they don't get back to me, is their any way moderators on this forum can pass on a message to my new cousin?
Thanks, and love the look of the forum, looking forward to contributing.

Paul

Hi Gill,

You need to get in touch with me asap!! ;D I am decended from a James Mclaren, who was a younger brother of your Peter Mclaren. I too had terrible trouble finding out about Peter and his wife Christina, along with what turned out to be six children. The James Mclaren mentioned on the 1881 census in Newburgh, Fife is my g grandfather!!

I have lots of info to share with you - hope to hear from you very soon!!

Regards
Paul S
