Many thanks. It looks like he may have founded "Father Bampton's Poor School" on Talbot Road, Blackpool and so it's likely to be him.
He is the brother of my husband's ancestor Augustus Hamilton Bampton (still looking for AHB in the 1841 but no success). I do have the stethoscope article and he certainly was interesting. A sister named Sarah Findlay Bampton may also have converted to RC as she was teaching at a convent in 1851.
I haven't yet discovered the source of all those middle names.
